ABSTRACT

This experiment was carried out to determine the relationship between the pressure
and the temperature of saturated steam in equilibrium. Besides that this experiment
was also done to demonstrate the vapor pressure curve. The market Boiler was used
for this experiment. When the pressure increases, the temperature also increases.
Therefore, the relationship of pressure and temperature is directly proportional. The
derived formulae and the data were used to calculate the slope. The dT/dP measured
was compared with the data in the steam table. Theoretically, the values measured
should be almost the same. This may because of the errors made in the experiment.

INTRODUCTION
Thermodynamics deals with the interchange of energies such as heat and work
between a system and the surroundings which occurs when the system undergoes a
process (heating or cooling). The loss or gai of energy in a system has a direct impact
on its thermodynamic properties. Two of the most important thermodynamics
properties of fluids are pressure and temperature that both vary in response to change
in the energy of a system. The theoretical values obtained from published steam tables
are to be compared to the readings obtained while conducting the marcet boiler
experiment, while giving further analysis for the divergence of the two values.
For the purpose of this experiment, a Solteq Marcet Boiler (model:HE169) is a bench
top unit designed for the demonstration of the basic principal in Thermodynamics
studies which is the boiling phenomenon. Students will be able to study the
relationship between the pressure and temperature of saturated steam in equilibrium
with water. The saturation pressure curve can be determined at the pressure within 10
bar ( 150 lb/in ).

Marcet boiler units are usually used in lab experiments to understand the relationship
between the changes of temperature and pressure and their effects on the boiling point
of water (equilibrium state). However industry applications vary widely such as an
arrangement can be used in power palnts, different cooking utilities, gasifiers as well
as utilizing the marcet boiler as a water boiler.
OBJECTIVES
1. To demonstrate the relationship between the pressure and temperature of saturated
steam in equilibrium.
2. To demonstrate of the vapour pressure curve.
