Itis the role of academia to spot this talent and nurture the lead- ers of tomorrow. IIM Kashipur took the initiative to work towards this aspirational goal and distilled the idea that increased Industry-Academia interaction is the key to arrive at effective solutions. By this ho- listic collaborative approach, we would aim to create structural processes that would serve all stakeholders. The Leadership Conclave 2012-13 was one such platform for industry experts and academi- cians to interact about critical issues in the theory - practice debate. The asymmetry between the design of corporations and curriculum was brought to the fore and the necessary action to be taken to address this imbalance was discussed.The need to refine academic courses to be in tune with the constantly changing industry was analyzed. Taking it forward, Leadership Conclave 2013-14 is all set to deliberate the issues of impor- tance to both the academic community and the industry with more focus on augmentation of academic research to support industry needs. To aid this, a smooth transition from academia to industry would be deliberated upon. A new dimension that needs to be explored is the role of society as a partner in industry - academia collaboration. Society is an important stakeholder in the value creation process of all businesses. With this objective, it is imperative to establish a framework that aids in transforming corporate social responsibility into social innovation as this would improve the industry's competitiveness and market access. This is essential in the purview of both economic performance and sustenance if an inclusive growth is to be achieved.On-track progression: From academia to industry Due to a significant difference in the structure of educational and industrial institutions in India, the transition from academia to industry is often challenging. This calls for a need of developing a system to ensure a smooth progression, Society: The larger stakeholder in the collaboration _ Itis important to note that the decisions taken by the business houses in collaboration with the academia affect the society as a whole. Hence, the social responsibility, which goes hand in hand with corporate innovation, cannot be ignored. The thought process: Promotion of free thinking in the industry | A large number of innovations result from free -thinking. Both industry and academia are storehouses of creativ- ity. However, the intense pressure to deliver often limit this creative flow. How to promote this free thinking is a point of concern, Bridging the Communication gap: The need of the hour Proper communication between the industry and academia is necessary for creating a long lasting relation- ship. It will also result in better role clarity among new professionals joining the industry. Research and Innovation: Emerging solutions to evolving business problene In this information age, industries require continuous innovations to survive and grow. The academia can con- tribute largely in providing a fresh outlook in finding solutions to this business problem. Industry-driven academic institutions: Approach, strategy and financial sustainaBily Academia can have programmes focussed on equipping the managers with latest approaches, These pro- grammes should be strategically structured and industry specific.
