Hi Guys,
I am using Symantec Netbackup 7.0 and I have a dedicated master server and I am trying to backup files on my file server.
The backup server is Windows 2008 Standard and the File Server is also Windows 2008 Standard, what's been happening since a week is that whenever I try to do a
full backup of the file server one of the streams gets stuck on random files and does not proceed further.
This has happened twice and that too at the very end when most of the files have been backed back and only a few GB of data is remaining, the backup has worked
in the past but duno why its getting stuck on some files now.
First time it was stuck on a .psd file and second time it was stuck on a .pdf file.
I tried removing the files are the location and suspended the job and restarted it but no use it still hangs or does not proceed further.
Any idea guys?
Thanks in advance

Best way to troubleshoot this is to be logged on to file server when the 'hang' is happening.
Check which other processes are running at the same point in time. Look for something like a virus scan, online defrag, etc. Basically look for any process
that can slow down or stop reading of files.
From NBU point of view, the following logs may help:
On client: bpcd and bpbkar
On media server: bpbrm and bptm.
These logs will just tell you what is happening in NBU. Full understanding of processes on File Server is needed in addition to NBU logs.

What I have done is disabled McAfee AV on both the media server and the client file server so that it does not affect the operation but it didnt help since it
stopped again the second time.
I have enabled the logging you have mentioned on the client and the media server and the backup is still running and backing up files so lets see.
What is sad is that twice it has stopped at the very end and the entire data is about 7 TB so you can imagine how it feels if it hangs with only about 2-3 GB
to complete!
Thanks!

We had a similar issue as yourself a while back (in our case a 'normal' Linux FS save) where a backup seemed to hang - don't fall into the same trap as we
did: we believed backup was hanging on a particular file (from Job Details?) & so moved/excluded or whatever & found that then hung on another file. It
transpired that it was not those particular files that were the issue but the *next* one that NB was processing (in our case it was a *very large* sparse file
that needed to be dealt with).
Not sure if this will help at all but this was the only other thing that came to mind that may assist in your investigation (but you may not want to pursue
this due to the amount of extra space that the bpbkar logs will require):
Usage specifics of the bpbkar_path_tr touch file to enable enhanced debug logging of the bpbkar process
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... (http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH31513)
Note that the use of this "touch" file will cause radically larger bpbkar logs than the usual (even at a logging level of 5). Refer to the UNIX / Windows
Troubleshooting Guide for more specifics on debug logs.
