Level 2 Music Practitioners Certificate

End of Unit Evaluation

Name:

Curtis Allan

Unit No: 212

SWOT Analysis
Strengths

I produced a sound reinforcement plan that included a floor/flow plan of the

accommodation and resources.
I produced a schedule, which included a timescale, equipment and resources
inventory, musicians requirements.
I produced a heath and safety check list.
I set up and used a PA system to sound check an ensemble with these
requirements and all activity was undertaken with full regard to heath and safety
issues.
I placed the components in the best location with regards to power supplies,
feedback, suppression, and monitoring.
I tested the system with a sound source and rectified any problems that occurred.

Weaknesses

We initially had some problems with feedback (high pitched whistling) coming from
the speakers.
I found the paper work that I had to do to prepare for this unit difficult.

Opportunities

I learnt how to set up a PA system during this unit.

I learnt how to use gain/trim, pre-fade listen/solo to address the feedback.
I learnt how to balance the sound of the instruments.
I learnt how to connect an audio recorder to the desk and record an extract of the
mix.
I learnt how to take care of the leads and to make sure that the all equipment was
accounted for.
Threats

The equipment could have failed

People could have damaged the PA system if they did not use it properly.

Conclusion
I think I have achieved a pass because I have:

1.1 Produced a basic sound reinforcement plan which accurately describes the
following:
Accommodation and resources
Schedule and timescale
Equipment and resource inventory
Musicians/acts requirements
Heath and safety requirements
1.2- I have connect and powered up a rehearsal-level PA system displaying awareness
of potential hazards of physical harm and damage to equipment etc. equipment
placement, including a basic testing of a system with a suitable sound source.
1.3- I sound checked a vocal microphone, one DId instrument and one micd acoustic
instrument and demonstrated a competent awareness of microphone placement
minimising feedback hazards, accurate EQ and balance awareness. I made a basic
recording of the mix produced. I safely dismantled the PA system following a set
procedure folding leads correctly ensuring that all equipment was accounted for.
1.4- I showed basic abilities in evaluating when considering how well the Pa set up
went, and gave a basic overview of my strengths and areas for development.
