BACKGROUND
Melaka World Heritage City
In July 2008, UNESCO listed Melaka and Georgetown in Penang as World
Heritage Sites for the living culture, history, architecture and diversified culture. This
reflects a global recognition of our rich and diversified cultural heritage .
Between Melaka and Georgetown, the city of Melaka was chosen for this project.
The reason is Melaka has been focal point of Malaysia history. Moreover, Melaka has
adopted the tagline Visit Historic Melaka Means Visit Malaysia.
Melaka has developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between
East and West in the Straits of Melaka. The influences can be seen in its government
buildings, churches, squares and fortifications. Therefore, we have decided to focus on
Melakas main attraction, that is the A Famosa, and how to promote and at the same
time, protect it.
A Famosa is a Portuguese fortress, and its ramparts used to surround the land
and functioned as the military base for the Portugese army. However, the Porta
de Santiago, the small gate house, is the only remaining part of the fortress that is still
standing until today as the rest were gradually demolished because of the war.

THE PROBLEM 1
From the studies (Ding,2002), foreign tourists prefer to visit the information
centre to get source of information such as pamplet concerning available
heritage sites in Melaka.

THE SOLUTION 1
So that, to support promoting tourist to come Melaka World Heritage City,
We have invented i-Parameswara. I- Parameswara helps to provide
information of other historical and cultural sites in Melaka by giving an
information card which tourists can be able to read and keep it.

FACTS
More than 200 trishaw or beca
riders are fighting for survival,
unsure how long they can
continue to work using this
method of transportation.
As the quality of life improves,
trishaw which amount to about
1000 in the 80s are slowly
declining in numbers.

ROBOT FUNCTIONALITY
The Humonoid Melaka
17 | P a g e
We have invented a robot to fulfil the two purposes, and we name it The
Humanoid Melaka. For our robot, we feature three components, which are the iParameswara, i-Tuah, and i-Li Po.
The first robot, i-Parameswara is named after the Melakas founder,
Parameswara. I-Parameswara has 1 NXT, 1 motor and 2 touch sensors. The iParameswara will be placed next to the AFamosa. Other than promoting tourists to
come to the fort, i-Parameswara also helps to provide information of other historical and
cultural sites in Melaka. There are two buttons on this robot. When tourists pressed the
first button, an information card will be emitted from a slot which tourists can be able to
read and keep it. The second button on the other hand, will link the tourists to the
second robot.

The second robot is named the i-Tuah, also named after a very well-known
Melaka knight. i-Tuah resembles a trishaw, one of Melakas main traditional modes of
transportation. It contains 1 NXT and 2 motors. When the switch on the first robot, the iParameswara is pressed, the NXT will send a message via bluetooth to the i-Tuah.
Then, a red LED will light up to alert the tourist that the trishaw is hired. The i-Tuah will

move according to the track using its light sensor, and stop in front of the AFamosa to
fetch the tourists. Other interesting feature of this robot is, it plays the song Dondang
Sayang while bringing the tourists around. Dondang Sayang is a song originated by the
old folks of Melaka.

Whereas the third robot, the i-Li Poh has 1 NXT, 3 motors and 2 light sensor and
1 ultrasonic sensor. The i-Li Poh serves a function of protecting and preserving the
environment in Melaka. The robot will use its light sensor to sense the black line on the
track. It cleans the rubbish found on the track using a vacuum motor.
