Understanding Geologic Time
1. The asteroid impact separated the Paleogene and Cretaceous periods and the
Cenozoic and Mesozoic eras.
2. Non-avian dinosaurs appeared in the Late Triassic and lived till the end of the
Cretaceous, a period of around 135 million years.
3. The eons separated are the Paleozoic and Mesozoic and the periods are the
Cambrian and Early Triassic.
4. The Pleistocene epoch.
5. The Haden eon.
6. The Archeozoic eon.
7. The cyanobacteria evolved in the Proterozoic and eukaryotes also evolved in
the Proterozoic.
8. Ediacarian fauna lived in the Proterozoic eon also.
9. Approximately 438 million years due to the Ordovician extinction.
10.Geologists separate time by extinction events because it characterizes the
ecosystem of the time and signifies the possibility of greater diversity as
organisms adapt to new ecological niches.
