Prop/costume & make up for

performance
By Katherine Pirie

Clothing
Initially for the performance the artist is denoted within a
white top, burgundy trousers and converses. These will
be throughout the whole of of the performance in order
for the level of continuity to remain high.
The artist will wear her own clothing, this will create an
utopian view within the music video as the artist feel
comfortable and relaxed within her own clothing
therefore relaxing within the music video creating a calm
and easily atmosphere within the video. This will help to
represent female character worldwide due to the casual
laid back look, this links in with the male gaze theory due
to the voyeuristic look upon her.
This also links in with Blumler and Katz theory, uses and
gratifications, personal relationships and identity and an
active primary audience will make links between their
clothing and the clothing that is being denoted within the
music video. This also links in with Barthes's theory with
the idea of women being sexualized throughout media.

Jewellery
To go with the performance base of the music
video, the artist will also be wearing a range of
different jewellery in order to connote her
social status as well as her wealth, this will
include a ring, bracelets and a necklace.
Again, the artist will wear these throughout the
whole of the performance base of the music
video this is due to continuity.
The jewellery will also represent her social
status as well as connoting her feminist
characteristics. This links in with the male gaze
theory due to the artist attracting a secondary
audience of males.

Decoration
Within our performance base of the music
video, our local park will be decorated with a
range of buntings and paper chains, this will
draw in our target audience due to the bright
colour. This is also highly synchronous with our
selected genre.
We aim to create and make all of the buntings
and paper chains our self in order to add and
arrange all the colours. This will help to create
a utopian atmosphere and world within our
music video as an active audience member will
feel safe and secure while watching the video.
This links in with the Blumler and Katz theory
of diversion due to an active audience wanting
to watch the video in order to escape their
every day life route.

Makeup
Through out the music video, the artist will be
denoted with simplistic makeup. This will link
to an active audience of our target audience
due to the Blumler and Katz theory of personal
relationships. As an audience will make
connections between the artist and
themselves.
The artist will be denoted wearing red lipstick,
in order to connote a professional look towards
a primary target audience. Whereas towards a
secondary target audience they will gain a
sense of voyeuristic seduction due to the male
gaze theory.
