Prelab #3: Deformation and Failure of Beams
1. We load the beam to 1000 pounds. However, the load should never exceed 4000 pounds.
2. Strain and displacement of the beam.

4. One steel beam will be 1/4 in x 1/8 in x 4 in. Another steel beam will be either twice in
length, width, or thickness as this. The aluminum beam will be the same size as one of
these beams.
5. The purpose of testing the aluminum beam will be to see how a different Youngs
Modulus affects a beams stiffness and strength.
