Derivatives

1.1

Definition of the derivative

1. Using the definition of the derivative, show that the function f (x) = |x|
is dierentiable at the intervals ( 1, 0) and (0, +1), but not at the
point x0 = 0.
p
2. Show that the function f (x) = x is not dierentiable at the point
x0 = 0.
3. Using the definition of the derivative, show that if f id dierentiable
at x0 = c, then it is also continuous at the same point. [challenging]

is a constant function in R.

(b) Find f given the extra information that f (0) = 1.

2. Inverse trigonometric functions:
(a) f (x) = sin

(b) f (x) = cos

(c) f (x) = tan
