Installing DHCP Server Role

Administrators must install DHCP server role on a Windows Server 2008 R2 computer before it can be configured to
assign IP addresses to the client computers automatically. Steps involved in adding DHCP server role to a Windows Server 2008
R2 computer are given as below:
Log on to Windows Server 2008 R2 computer with administrator account.
Go to Start > Administrative Tools and from the available list click Server Manager.
On the opened Server Manager snap-in from the left pane click to select Roles and from the right pane click Add Roles.
On Add Roles Wizards Before You Begin window click Next.

On Select Server Roles window check DHCP Server checkbox and click Next.

On DHCP Server window click Next.

On Select Network Connection Bindings window make sure that the checkboxes representing the network connections, that
the DHCP server must serve, are checked and clickNext.

On Specify IPv4 DNS Server Settings window type the name of the domain in Parent domain field and in Preferred DNS
server IPv4 address field type the IP address of the DNS server.
Click Validate button to validate the DNS server and once validated click Next.

On Specify IPv4 WINS Server Settings window leave everything as default and click Next.

On Add or Edit DHCP Scopes window leave everything as default (for now) and click Next.

On Configure DHCPv6 Stateless Mode window click Next leaving everything as default.

On Specify IPv6 DNS Server Settings window erase the values from the populated field (for now, assuming that the network
setup does not have IPv6 addressing scheme) and click Next.

On Authorize DHCP Server window make sure that Use current credentials radio button is selected and User Name field is
populated with the name of the account that holds administrative privileges on the server. Alternatively, Use alternate
credentials or Skip authorization of this DHCP server in AD DS radio buttons can also be selected according to the
requirements of the network infrastructure.

Once appropriate radio button is selected click Next.

On Confirm Installation Selections window click Install button to start DHCP installation process.

Once the installation process completes click Close button.
