Reminders Students should be reading for at least 15 min. every night. Daily practice will go a long way in helping your child improve their reading level.
This week I will be sending a list of high
frequency words that your child is working on. Please practice reading 510 of them every night. Knowing these words will be a huge benefit to improving your childs reading.
Feb. 5th we are celebrating the 100th
day of school! Please make a collection of 100 things to send to school with your child. Ideas: 100 pretzels, 100 cotton balls, 100 toy cars, 100 pennies, 100 marshmallows, 100 cheerios, 100 stickers
We will have a small class celebration
in the afternoon of Feb. 12th. We will exchange Valentines. You may also send in a treat for the class if you wish. Please remember we are a nut free classroom.
Here's What Were Working On...
Oral Language we will use Kelsos choices to solve small problems when at school. http://kelsoschoice.com/ Reading we are working on the following strategies that good readers use: Flip the Sound flip a short sound into a long sound and vice versa if it doesnt sound right Know many words by heart Writing students will be focusing on writing conventions: printing our letters properly, finger spaces between words, appropriate capitals and punctuation. They will also work on adding interesting details to their writing. Math We will begin working with money: counting and recognizing coins. Students will need to be able to count to 20 cents (Gr. 1) and $1.00 (Gr. 2) in many ways.
