Math: This week we will continue reading and writing numbers within 1,000 while
representing them using quickdraw and number lines. We will spend more time with numbers
that have more than 9 ones or 9 tens. Students will be modeling them as well as solving
problems using them. For example: students will need to understand that 23 is 2 tens and 3
ones, or that it can be 23 ones. 152 can be 1 hundred, 5 tens, and 2 ones, 15 tens and 2
ones, or 152 ones. By the end of the week, we will start comparing the size of numbers.
Spelling: This weeks focus is on words with short u patterns and number words. Please
remind your child to study his/her circled words.
Reading: We are continuing to respond to books that we are reading! Some of the books
that we are using are: On My Way, Katy and the Big Snow, Jasper and the Bully, and The
Karate Mouse.
Writing: We will be writing about If I had $100 for the 100th day of school. Also, as a
class writing project, we will write 100 ways that we can be kind to others.
Science: We will complete our inventions unit by writing about our pasta car creations. We
will then start a new unit all about balance and motion. We will begin by learning what it
means if something is balanced. Well also conduct a balance experiment with our bodies.
