Mrs. Patsavas Classroom Newsletter

Dear Parents, I hope that everyone had a blessed and joyful Easter. This week we will start testing for progress reports. They will be going home on April 18th. Remember to help your child practice Kindergarten skills at home. In Religion, we will read about the most important holy day in our church, Easter. We will also read the story of the resurrection from our classroom Bible and will complete Chapter 29, Easter. We will learn the meaning of the word Alleluia, read about new life we see in the Spring and decorate a paper Easter egg. In Math, we will identify and match equivalent sets, identify doubles, act out story problems using teddy bear counters, estimate and measure the capacity of containers and order containers by capacity. We will also solve story problems by guessing and checking and complete oral assessment #12 (counting by 10s to 100, comparing length and measuring length.) In Reading, we will work on Unit 10 in our Superkids books. This week we will read the story, The Big Box Fix Up in reading groups. We will also blend sounds to decode words, learn a new memory word, recognize smaller words in compound words and answer comprehension questions about a story. We will also write an opinion about which box we liked the best in the story. In Science we will continue to study force and gravity. In Social Studies we will read about different forms of transportation. Happy Easter, Mrs. Patsavas

Reminders
Save the date: Grandparents Day will be April 27th from 9:30am until 11:00am. All Grandparents are invited! Homework is going home tonight. Please make sure it is completed and returned by Thursday. Thank you! Please make sure that your child knows how to tie their shoes. This is a skill that they need to know before they enter First Grade. Thank you to all of the parents who have already helped their child learn this skill! Now is the time to make sure that your child knows their address and phone number. I will test them on this before the end of the school year. Parent Tip of the Week: When reading a picture book to your child, have him/her look at the pictures and predict what will happen in the story.
