What to look forward to: Making our Countdown Calendars with cereal boxes, library time with Ms. Clessa and doing our Peer assessments for our Stop Motion Animations.

Well done to all Grade 1s for working so hard on your stop Motion Animations. We hope you have all had fun making them.

In Language this week we will be focusing daily on story writing in our morning groups where we will be discussing Characters, settings and how to sequence the events in a story. In writing we will do our weekend news recount with emphasis on using detail in our sentences. We will also write an informative text about Foxes and supply some facts about this topic.

Our phonics and handwriting letter sound is ch as in chip. We will practice using this sound in activities like ch word musical chairs and a chocolate chop stick relays. Children will also practice writing these words to help them with spelling. In handwriting we have completed all 26 small letters in the alphabet so we will now be focusing on using capitals in our handwriting. children will practice and apply using capitals when they write names of people, places, and months of the year and days of the week. Our Group Reading is on Monday and Wednesday, remember to return it to school in time. We will be continuing the benchmarking for reading levels this week. In Mathematics we will be learning about odd and even numbers. To make this more meaningful to their life world we will be making countdown calendars focusing on the odd and even numbers and counting down to the first day back at the new school. Please can you send in a medium sized empty cereal box by Monday for this. We would also like the children to draw pictures in for any special celebrations or fun activities that you will be doing in the holidays so there will be a note in the homework book where you can discuss these with your children and write the specific dates. The Calendar will also tie in with the Number Grid patterns lesson. Then we

will continue with patterns and shapes in our Math books. In the UOI we will be completing our Stop Motion animations and then performing peer assessments where students will identify if their partner has understood and explained how the two body systems function together.
