100TH DAY OF SCHOOL

It is hard to believe we are nearing the point of our 100th day of school! Where did the time go? We will be celebrating our 100th day of school on Wednesday, February 12th (providing no snow days come up in the mean time). We will be doing a variety of center activities to commemorate the day. Tonight in the BEE book you will nd one additional assignment. There will be a piece of tag 24 Community Gathering: First Grade Performs (7:45 am in the Gym) 27 Star of the Week: Emily
February:

As you read with your child, have them stop and make a movie in their head of what is happening in the story. Then, have them describe what they are seeing.

Our reading strategy of the month is: Visualizing

paper with the number 100 printed on it. We are asking that families send in a 100 day collection of something. Examples of this may be: 100 paper clips, 100 Cheerios, or 100 stickers glued on the paper. Please send this paper in no later than Friday, February 8. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this assignment.

Book Orders Assessments

If you are interested in placing an order, please do so by the 24th. In the last shipment, Scholastic sent me a coupon for each family, which I stapled onto the yer this month. Feel free to use it if you would like.

I have been busy assessing all of the kids in reading, word work, and math. I hope to have all assessments complete by the end of next week. Once they are done, I will resume book groups with them, and begin math groups. I also completed all of the word work (spelling) assessments, and redid their spelling groups. I began those this week with their new word sorts. As always, I am so impressed with their progress, and appreciate all of the work and support that is given at home.

Reading

We spend the last couple weeks really working on questioning strategies while we read. The class did so well with this, and it is my hope that as they read independently, they continue to think about questions they have on the stories they read. Next week, we will start talking about visualizing what is happening in the stories we read, especially on books that dont have pictures.

In the BEE books tonight, a letter was sent home regarding the Friendship/ Valentines Day party we are having on the 14th of February from 12:15-1:15. We will also be giving Valentines out separately that same day. I included a class list in the BEE books for these Valentines. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this, or if you need any assistance with the Valentines as I have plenty of extras.
