If your child wishes to hand out Valentines cards, we will be doing that on February 13 th in
the afternoon. That afternoon we will make holders to put them in and students can then
exchange and read their valentines. Please be considerate and make sure your child has a
card for every student in the class. We strive for everyone to have a sense of belonging in

Dear Parent(s):

During the month of February we will be focusing on the character development project called
Bucket Filling. We will continue with the 7 Habits in March.
Bucket Filling is an easy-to-understand concept: Everyone carries an invisible bucket that holds
our good thoughts and feelings. When our buckets are full, we feel happy and when our
buckets are empty we feel sad.
Children quickly understand that they can fill buckets when they do and say things that are kind,
considerate, caring, and respectful. They also learn that when they are inconsiderate, uncaring, or
disrespectful, they dip into buckets and remove those good feelings. Even the youngest child
understands that actions and words can either fill a bucket or dip into it. During the month of
February we are encouraging, reminding, and recognizing everyones efforts to be bucket fillers at
home, at school, and everywhere they go. We are excited about filling each others buckets and
look forward to your support.
Teachers will be sending home bucket filling stars, hearts, and crosses. We encourage you to use
these forms to fill the bucket of your child, a teacher, a parent at our school, coaches and
community members. Simply cut out the shape provided, fill out the information and return it to
the school in your childs agenda so that we can add it to our bucket filling bulletin board at school.
We encourage you to discuss the following questions with your child to remind them of how much
fun bucket filling can be.
1.
2.
3.
4.

Whose bucket did you fill?

What did you say or do?
How did you feel?
How did the other person feel?

If you would like to learn more about bucket filling, visit the Bucket Fillers website,
