Kansas Day Activities!

Important Dates:

We are learning so many wonderful facts about the state

of Kansas this week. Kansas turns 156 years old on January 29,
2017. To celebrate this momentous event, we will celebrate Kansass birthday by making homemade butter and eating it on
homemade bread. We will finish our celebration by sharing an
educational video called the Little House on the Prairie with
Mrs. Donohos Kindergarten Class. In a couple of weeks, students will be bringing home a
Kansas Day booklet filled with facts and information. It also contains symbols from our state
that students worked hard to color nicely.

Fun Fact! When sunflowers

begin to grow, they follow the
sun. That is why they are
called sunflowers.

Martin Luther King, Jr.!

Last week and this week, we learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contributions to our country. We compared and discussed how life used to be when MLK was young and
the role he played to change our world for the better.

Pizza Hut Book-It Reading Program

Kindergarten reading logs are DUE Tuesday, January 31st! In our classroom, our reading goal is 15 books for the month of January. This is a mandatory assignment and I expect ALL
students and parents to participate. Please make sure your child turns in his/her pizza login sheet
on time. I cannot give students a Pizza Hut certificate for the month if they are handed in late. NO
EXCEPTIONS! If you misplace or lose your sheet, you may write the books down on a separate
sheet of paper. Please make sure your childs name is on it and that it includes a parent or guardian's signature. Thank you!

When students meet

their reading goal for
the month, they receive a FREE personal pan pizza from
Pizza Hut!

100th Day of School!

We will be celebrating our 100th Day of Kindergarten on Feb. 2, 2017! Each student will need to
bring 100 edible trail mix goodies (dry pieces of cereal, raisins, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, seedless sunflower seeds, etc.) to share with the class, as well as 100 non-edible items
to practice counting by 5s and 10s (pennies, paperclips, dry pinto beans, etc.). This will be a
total of 200 items! We will be doing activities dealing with the #100 all day long! Yeah!

Parent-Teacher Conferences!
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Feb. 15th & 16th. I cant wait to meet with everyone
about the progress all of our kindergarteners are making! It is very exciting! More information
will be sent to everyone soon, including the specific date and time your childs conference will be
held. Remember: We are looking for 100% parent participation! We reached our goal last semester; lets do it again this semester! See you soon!!!

Valentines Day!
Valentines Day is coming soon and we will celebrate with treats and a party! Yeah! I am asking
each student to bring a small valentine for every student in our class. After all, no one wants to
be left out. This is a wonderful time to teach sharing and caring. Valentines can be made or purchased. Addressing Valentines is a great opportunity for your child to practice his/her handwriting skills. (Please check for legibility and reversals by modeling the correct way to make
letters before your child brings his/her valentines to school. Please do NOT write the names on
your childs valentines for him/her. Allow your child to do the writing.) It is optional if you want
to attach a wrapped candy to the valentines your child will be giving to the other students. Our
class will be making Valentines Day heart-shaped cardholders, so it is unnecessary to have your
child bring anything from home to place their valentines in for the party.
Please send your childs valentines in a baggy or small sack with his/her name on it on
Tuesday, Feb. 14th. Please do not send them earlier than the 14 th. (Thank you!) Students will
be placing valentines in sacks throughout the day. We will send the cards/candy home with your
child after the party. Please use the class roster attached to this parent letter to assist your
child in addressing his/her valentines properly. Please, help your child plan ahead by beginning early.

Our Valentines Day Party

will be February 14, 2017.

If you would like to help with the Valentines Day Party, please contact me ON or BEFORE
Feb. 5th. (Our party will be from about 2:15-3:15p.m.) Thank you!
