From the Principal

Dear parents/guardians, Some itemssince 1974, the Archdiocese of Chicago has identified one Sunday in January as Annual Every year of interest. Catholic Schools Week. This year we will be celebrating our Catholic Schools Heritage at an Open House on Sunday, January 27. There are three goals of Open House this year: First, to celebrate our Catholic School Heritage by highlighting some of the programs and services available at the school for family members who might not be familiar with them; Second, to invite our graduates back to see the school and possibly make contact with old friends; and Third, to reach out to new families who might be trying to decide on a school choice for their children next year. I hope all of our current families will recommend our Open House to others who may be considering a school choice for next year. Scholastic Book Fair. During the Open House on Sunday, we will also have an expanded Scholastic Book Fair in two classrooms inside the north entrance of the school building. A good way to celebrate schooling would be to consider purchase of books or other materials of interest. One book room has selections for younger children, and one for older children. Some of these book choices were made following suggestions from parents and others at our book fair last fall. Gift cards. We will have gift cards available for sale in the gym during Open House, and almost anytime the office is open during the week (Jewel, Starbucks, Wall Mart and many more). See the homepage for more information. The rebate from each card is split evenly between you and the school, with the Archdiocese matching the school half dollar for dollar. Do you need a hat? Approximately one out of every three of the children arriving for school on these cold mornings is not wearing a hat! As it happens we sell St. Bede hats and jackets in the school office every day. Get a knit hat for $6.00, a headband for $7.00, and a baseball style cap for $8.00. Fleece jackets are also available in s, m, l , xl and xxl. (All hats and jackets are embroidered with the school name and falcon silhouette). See Mrs. Caron for more information. Best Wishes as the Winter Continues, Charles A. Pinto, Principal

Work on a mural

Description of project

PreSchool

The subject would be the "St. Bede Neighborhood" with the church, school, playground, trees, flowers, Mary's garden, etc.

Mrs. Flackus and Ms. Hookom - a choral presentation.

- We are going to sing and do the hand motions to "Our God is an Awesome God" by Rich Mullins Students will be broke up into two groups of eight and judges will pick the best group from each class and the two best groups will perform together at the talent show! :) Each individual will work on a mural painting of several of their favorite things that represent them and then write a short poem to go along with it. Children will draw their own individual pictures of some type of lock with a key to unlock it depicting different things they can do in their lives to fit into the picture of the Saint Bede Community as a whole. A short drama on the life of a saint. See grade 4 below. We will be doing classroom plays and choosing the best one to perform for CSW. We are planning on performing the plays for each other's class, and then we will try to judge which group from each class should be performed for the school, based on our assessments and the student's reaction to each play.
