MRS. MOHRS CLASS

HOMEWORK HIATUS
The class has been working really hard on collecting their next set of 100 tickets for our PBIS program. We collected the last two today, and they decided they would like a week of no homework. All next week, I will not be sending any homework home. I will still change out their book bags for nightly reading, but there will not be any additional work. I am very proud of them for earning this goal. They have been working towards it for awhile, and were so excited about not having any homework. Enjoy the week homework free, and we will resume our regular homework schedule beginning the week of March 3.

As your child is reading, help them gure out clues that are in the story that arent told to them directly. For instance, if the sentence read, It was a warm, hot, day... they would know that it must be summer. By learning how to infer, your child is gaining a deeper level of understanding to the story.

Our reading strategy of the month is: Inferring

Read Across America Writing

Next week, we will be celebrating read across America throughout the week with a variety of activities. We will conclude the week with dress up like your favorite book character day. If your child is interested in participating, please have them dress up on Friday, February 28.

So, I made a slight change in our writing unit plans. Originally, I was going to begin a unit on persuasive writing. However, I decided to do a really fun writing project using the book The Jolly Postman, which goes along with our fairy tale unit. Once we have completed these books, we will then begin our persuasive writing unit. We will share the Jolly Postman books at portfolio conferences. I cannot wait to have your child share this great writing piece with you.

Our spring conferences are quickly approaching. I sent out the sign up link through Volunteer Spot earlier this week. Please remember that your child does attend these with you. They will be showing off some of the great work they have done this year. To access the sign-up, please go to: http://vols.pt/AxmbcQ.
