Summarizing
After your child reads with
you, ask them about the
different parts of the story:
characters, setting, events,
problem, and solution. This
will help them build their
comprehension of the story.

FIRST GRADE NEWS

the
Pump it Up
The Pump it Up party is tomorrow! We never received our invitations/waivers, so if you are planning
on attending, please make sure you ll out a waiver upon arrival. As a reminder, the party begins at
5:30, but we ask that you arrive at 5:15 to watch a safety video. Siblings are allowed to attend, but it will
be an additional $10. Also, if you are bringing your other children, we please ask that you stay to help
supervise. Thank you in advance, and let me know if you have any other questions.
Assessments
It is hard for me to believe that it is already that time of year, where I will need to complete end of the
year assessments! Where has the year gone? I began completing
some of the assessments this past week, but it is my hope to nish up
the rest during this week and next while Sam Charles is doing her
lead teaching. It has been exciting to see all of their growth from the
beginning of the year!
Cave of the Mounds
If you havent turned in your
Cave of the Mounds permission
form, please do so as soon as
possible. For those of you that wanted to chaperone, I will be in
touch soon with all the trip details. Thank you to everyone for being
so prompt with returning the forms!

Lead Weeks
As part of Sam Charles student teaching requirements, she is expected to lead two weeks of teaching.
Beginning this week, May 12 through May 23, Sam will be the lead teacher in charge. I will still be here,
but my time will be spent assessing the class for student growth Please feel free to contact Sam or myself
