Week of February 8-12
This is the last week of school before February Break. Have a great vacation!
The 100th day of school will take place Tuesday.
We will have a Valentine Party on Friday afternoon.
This weeks Second Step lesson focuses on managing embarrassment. Students will
learn that using a stop signal and naming your feelings are the first two CalmingDown Steps.
Winter Fun Day will be the Friday after vacation, weather permitting. Please make
sure that your have signed and returned your childs permission slip. Also, if you want
to volunteer, please let us know.
Math: Math Club continues this week. Most groups are working on fact practice and
counting.
We will continue our unit, Addition and Subtraction within 200 and Word Problems
within 100. This week students will practice the strategies we learned last week.
Students will make the next ten with addition (instead of solving 39 + 44, they would
change it to 40 + 43) and use constant difference for subtraction (when you add the
same amount to each number to make the problem easier; 45 - 29 would be be 46 30). We will also work on solving one and two step word problems.
Spelling: Write and study your spelling words for Friday.
Reading: Make sure that you keep track of your nightly reading and write about your
favorite book.
Writing: During vacation you can keep a journal of what you do, so that you can
share with the class when you come back.
Science: Students will make changes to their pasta cars after a test run last week.
Students will reflect on their inventions as well as what it was like to be an inventor.
Social Studies: None for now as we focus on Science.

Reading: Read 20 minutes a night for homework.
