Week of March 21-25
We should finally make it to Nome in the Iditaread this week! Nice reading team!
Chris McCabe, a Maine Game Warden, will be doing a presentation for the second grade
on Monday as part of our community helpers health unit.
Second Trimester report cards go home near the end of the week. Please sign and
return the envelope a.s.a.p. Let us know if there are any questions.
Math:
We will reach the half way point of our unit, Addition and Subtraction within 200 and Word
Problems within 100, this week. Our focus for the week will be on subtracting using
quickdraw and the algorithm. We will also review addition and then practice solving mixed
addition and subtraction problems. The class will also solve word problems.
Quickdraw:

Vertical Method:

135 - 26 = 109
Spelling: Some words have two vowels together. When this happens the first vowel usually
says its name or makes the long vowel sound. This week we are working with words that
have ail and ain.
Reading: We are focused on fluency this week. Students are practicing paying attention to
punctuation and using expression while they read.
Writing: This week we will be taking a closer lookout sentence structure and what makes
up a complete sentence.
Science: We are now working on a new unit about balance and motion. We will start
learning about motion this week. In order for something to move, force has to be applied.
Well do an experiment with tops and learn the words spin, rotate, and axis.
Social Studies: None for now as we focus on Science.

The following homework assignments are due by

Thursday, March 21:
Math: Subtraction practice using quickdraw and the algorithm.
Reading: Read at least 20 minutes a night.
