Week of April 27 - May 1

Welcome back from April Break! Hopefully you all had a chance to do something
fun!
A letter is going home today from Cascade Brook requesting your input about next
year. Please complete the document by the end of the week and return it to
school.
The Book Fair will be at Mallett next week. Be on the look out for further
information.

Math: We continue to work on addition and subtraction through 200 as well as word problems
through 100. We will review the addition and subtraction strategies that we were working on
before vacation (quickdraw and vertical method). We practiced bundling ones to make a ten
and unbundling a ten to make ones. This week we will start learning about bundling tens to
make 100. In some problems students will have to regroup twice (ones into tens and tens into
100s.!

Spelling: This week we will be working on adding the ending ing to words. Please remind
your child to practice for Fridays test.
Reading: In groups we are focused on fluency, comprehension, decoding strategies, and
responding to books. Some of the books that we are reading are: The Junkyard Dog, Barry
the Bravest St. Bernard, A Medal for Molly, and Sparky and Eddie: The First Day of School.
Writing: We will be writing about our vacation activities as well as what we might want to be
when we are an adult.
Science: We will work on a short health unit. We will learn about different ways to keep
ourselves healthy. We will explore the topics of nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. Students will
create a personal goal to track and accomplish. Please ask your child his/her goal.
Social Studies: None for now.
Vocabulary: The vocabulary words that we will work with this week include: balance, reflect,
and gravity.
