Hello parents! Green Elementary has been recognized by the state as a MODEL SCHOOL for PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports) for the 2012-13 school year. It is so encouraging to be validated for all of the hard work the students and staff put forth every day. You will be receiving raffle tickets in a green envelope to sell for the PTA. This is a great way to support our school!

The Week Ahead

Reading: We are still practicing independence in our Daily 5 tasks of Read To Self, Read To Someone, and Work On Writing. Students will focus on characters this week: feelings, characteristics, and changes over time. We will compare and contrast characters throughout stories. Letterland: Well work on Unit 11: Consonant Blends with S. Remember, tests arent always on Fridays! With the early releases and teacher workdays, I want to make sure students have time to study these words. Writing: Students will strengthen their persuasive letters by editing and revising. They will begin to prepare for publishing! Math: We will understand two digit numbers as amounts of tens and ones. We will use teen addition strategies in story problems. We will continue to compare numbers using the vocabulary and the symbols for greater than and less than. Science: We will move from balance and begin working in motion. We will create a top and discuss a central axis with rotating motion. Social Studies: We will continue to investigate the similarities and differences in the needs and concerns of various cultures. Also, we will begin learning about the First Thanksgiving.
