Local Government

Our city or village people elect citizens to govern and

make laws.
They have the power to collect taxes, establish a fire
department, construct sidewalks, sewers, and they
organize our public libraries.
They protect the health of all its people, work with
public utilities, parks, playgrounds, and issue building
permits. All of these things must be discussed and
voted on by our city council.
Lanesboro has a Mayer who is elected by the people
of the city. ( Robbin Krom)
The Mayer is the president of the city council, and
also attends all public affairs because he or she
represents our city. ( city council members- Tom
Dybing, Tom Smith, Autumn Johnson, Jason
Resseman)
A CITY MANAGER actually runs the business of the
city. This person is elected by the city council. The
council feels it is usually best not to hire a local
resident for this position so no favoritism is shown to
an individual or parties. ( city manager- David Todd)
