Andesite Rock Overview and Uses

Andesite is an extrusive igneous rock formed by lava between 52-63% silica content. It is named after and commonly found in the Andes mountains of South America, where most deposits are located near coastal mountains. Where is it most common

Most of the Andesite deposits can be found in

mountains by the coast

The Andes mountains are by the coast so it is
a good place to look for andesite

The Andes mountains

means it was made of lava leaving the

mantle.

How is andesite used

today
Andesite is sometimes used in construction or

road building but it is not common because it

has a high percentage of silica (SiO2)
