QUESTION 1 - IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP

OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?

Feature 1:
The first title presented within our opening sequence is our Production Name HOB Productions. We have decided to
present this title first of all within our media piece due to the fact that we believe that all credit is due to the company
that have produced the film. Our strategy to achieve getting our name recognised was to present it at the very
beginning as seen to the left. Like any other film, when the lights dim in the cinema or a soundtrack is heard within
the start of the film, the audience first intention is to engage with what is happening, therefore they will be likely to
pay more attention to our name at the start in comparison to if it was at the end. It also exaggerates the significance
this name has to our film as we are the ones who have created the piece, therefore we should be noticed the most.
Secondly, it is also obvious that our logo and background are in black and white. The significance of this is that our
piece isnt aimed at a specific genre as we have the intention of entertaining both genders as well as most age
groups. By choosing neutral colours we have ensured that we havent aimed our film at anyone in particular. This also
links to the typical idea of our genre, Romantic Comedies. From not choosing a gender specific colour scheme, it can
be seen that both male and females are intended to watch our piece, likewise in our film both men and women are
seen as significant characters. Black and White show this idea of romantic comedies as our piece isnt just about men
or just about women.

Feature 2:
This is the second significant feature that is included in our opening sequence. Again we have presented the title of
HOB Productions. The effect of presenting this title twice emphasises that the name is rather important to the media
piece and should be recognised first of all. Furthermore, we can see that a the title has been displayed in a elegant
and stylish font. We used Embassy BT as the font. This is because we feel it fits best with the given genre we were
working with. The idea of this writing is to highlight the emotions that will follow in the media piece. For example, the
elegant font highlights a romantic feel, this will give the audience a brief idea of what is to happen in the film they
will watch. This same idea can we represented in the bright pink we have used as the title colour.
Lastly, this part of our opening sequence also is the first moment where the audience start to pick up the personality
traits of the female character. This can be seen using the pink carpet for instance, the audience may sense that she
is a girly girl that is focused on how she looks over most things. This idea can be seen by the running shoes, they
represent her as being sporty and fit, this is where the two ideas link as she works on her appearance by keeping fit
and healthy.

Feature 3:
I have chosen to discuss this third image seen in our opening sequence because I think it shows a lot about the
personality and attributes of our female character. This is also the first time that the audience get to see a full picture
of the female in the film. From what she is wearing says a lot about her character. In this case, our character is
wearing a sporty outfit and is ready to go running. This highlights that she has a passion for keeping fit and healthy to
improve or maintain her appearance, this description follows any typical young female which also helps the female
audience relate to the character in the film. Furthermore looking at the background included in this image, you can
see that the house she lives in is rather big. We have taken this to our advantage to link our media piece to typical
romantic comedies seen around the world. This is the situation where the girly girl that is bothered more
appearance and is always bubbly comes from a middle class family giving her an easy life that she can enjoy. Again
this helps relate to the audience where girls watching this character may aspire to be like her.

Feature 4:
I have chosen to include this feature because I feel that is represents the characters personality like I have described
previously. The setting in this image appears to be a quiet road that the female character lives down, the significance
of this is that we are starting to introduce the location to the audience which again, will help them to understand the
storyline more thoroughly and therefore really relate to bot the idea of the film as well as the genre. In this case, the
female character lives in the city where she likes to be free and live life at her own pace. This can be seen as before
this location is shown to the audience, we hear her say to her mum the time she will be back. Like before, watching
her actions tells the audience a lot about her character as here the fact that she is dictating what time she will be out
till exaggerates the females freedom and also highlights her desire for independence like any other normal girl her
age.
Furthermore, the second title shown in the opening sequence is the director of our media piece Owen Piper. The
reason that this name is presented to the audience second highlights their significance to the making of the film.
Being shown early in the opening sequence will ensure the majority of the audience recognise the name and will be
more likely to remember it rather than if it was presented at the end, just like the Production Company name.

Feature 5:
I have chosen to discuss this part of my opening sequence due to its significance for both the audiences sake as well
as the story of the film. My first point is that at this part of our media piece, this is the first stage of where the
audience observe the male character. The significance of this is that the audience then have the chance to imagine
what the male character is like and personality traits he may possess. For example the setting in the image
represents that he is a professional businessman. They made predict that he is a hard working individual that works
for what he has, unlike the female character. The benefit of allowing the audience to see the setting and costume the
man is wearing assists them in understanding the storyline as well as touching on his character inside.
My second point as to why this part is a key feature of our media piece is that the audience are introduced to who the
producer is. The reasoning for adding this title to the earlier stages of our opening sequence is so that most credit is
given to the main people involved in the making of the production as being one of the first names presented
represents their significance to the film which is the intention for the audience to realise.

Feature 6:
Me and the members of HOB Productions have agreed that this feature is rather significant to our opening sequence.
This can be seen by the title presented in the corner of the image shown above. It reads Harry Darling as Ethan
Matthews and is displayed within our media piece after the producers and directors have been presented. This title is
put here in the order due to the fact that they are important but not as significant as the names who have worked
together to put the film together. Having said this, we have displayed the titles like this to ensure that the audience
still recognise the actors profile therefore making sure that they still receive credit for being in the film.
Although explained above is the most relevant point for us displaying this shot within our opening sequence, I have
found that this shot can also show significance to the character in another sense. This can be seen as where the male
character works in a busy location, we can infer that his life is moving along at a fast pace and he is always working
being a typical businessman. Not just does this show his working status and what class he would come under, it also
represents his maturity and lifestyle traits. This can be seen as he always works for what he has making him a very
independent character that earns his freedom. The advantage of seeing him this way using this setting to define him
as a person will help the audience to relate to the character.

Feature 7:
Similarly to Feature 6, I have chosen to discuss this image from our opening sequence due to the fact that here is
where we introduce to the audience the actress who plays the female character in our media piece. Although this
feature is rather significant for our media product, me and the other members of HOB Productions decided to put this
title close to the end of the opening sequence. Our reasoning for this is due to us having other names and titles that
we thought were more important to the film over the actors and actresses. However, having said this we have
ensured that they still receive credit for being involved within the film.
Furthermore, the reason for displaying her name here rather than earlier or later within our opening sequence is due
to the setting behind the title and what activity she is taking part in when we captured this shot. We notice that she is
keeping fit by doing her daily activity of running. Not just does this show who the female character is on the outside,
it also helps the audience find who she is on the inside which beneficially gives them a chance to relate to her to aid
understanding of the story. In this case, where our female character is observed running, we can infer that she has
the choice of living life at her own pace where she has all the freedom she wants. This helps to represent her as a
person from the inside as someone who is not as mature as someone working in the city like our male character. We
have used this fact to relate our media piece as close to Romantic Comedies as possible. This can be seen as in this
genre, the two main characters that end up together start out as individuals that have no similarities but bump into
each other over an everyday event, like our story starts out as.

Feature 8:
Feature 8 is one of the shots within our opening sequence that the setting can be looked out most which also helps
enhance our chosen genre of Romantic Comedies. This is why I have picked out this image to discuss. First before I
explain and describe the setting, this scene is rather significant to the story of the film as this is the first time the
audience witness both characters approaching each other.
The setting we have used is obviously a park distributed in the middle of a busy city which is in fact Hyde Park in
London. The purpose of this is so that our audience will be able to relate to our opening sequence due to the fact this
is a common place people come across almost everyday. Furthermore, this helps to create a social aspect between
the audience and characters allowing them to understand the story further than they would if the story was set
somewhere random, for example a Chocolate Factory. For our setting we took a lot of influence from general
Romantic Comedies as all the films e have analysed were set next to a city featuring a park of some sort. This helps
to highlight the romantic side of our media piece. Lastly, our final reason for using this setting as the ideal place for
the two characters to meet is due to the fact that both people used in our film with their specific personalities would
be likely to travel through this location on a daily basis which helps to keep our opening sequence real.

Feature 9:
In this final picture, I think that this is one of the most significant features within our opening sequence. This is due to
my group and I selecting this scene as the best moment to introduce the title of our media piece. We chose this
scene because this is the first moment where the audience see both characters interact with each other in the
opening sequence. This represents the relevance to this title as their later relationship in the film is triggered by this
first meeting making is rather significant to the story. Furthermore, viewers may notice that we have introduced the
title of the film last in our opening sequence. We have done this to ensure that all credit is given to the different
names involved in the creation of our final product. Besides this reason, when a film is advertised before release, it is
promoted using the name of the film, therefore we used the valid reason that the title of the film would have already
been promoted enough meaning it shouldnt be put first as there are other people involved that deserve as much
credit as they could potentially get, this is ensured by putting the other names and titles before our film name.
