Process Paper

We first heard about Juliette Gordon Low when some of our group members
went to a local Girl Scout event, learning about the founder of Girl Scouts. We
didn t
decide to do a project on her until a year later when we found out the theme for
!"#
$%& s theme was 'Leadership and Legacy.( )ur group spent wee*s contemplating the
perfect %istory &ay topic. +rom the beginning, we wanted it to be about someone
who
revolutioni,ed the way women were loo*ed and thought of. We carefully considered
our
options and we reali,ed that Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts, was th
e
perfect idea. -s we dove further into our research we learned that she also cont
ributed
to the fight for e.ual rights. We wanted to prove Girl Scouts was more than coo*
ies and
camping. $o one really *nows about the founder but she played a *ey role in hist
ory,
then and now.
/ogether we searched the internet, loo*ed through letters written by Juliette
Gordon Low, read newspaper article during that year, and hunted through other re
cords
that were available to us. +or a better understanding of how Low has affected pe
ople s
lives we got interviews. 0n late $ovember we met up with 1ary 2ay Stolting and S
abrina
Stolting, who have been involved in Girl Scouts for over 3! years each. We also
got
email interviews with Stacy 4ordery, first historical biographer on Low, and Gin
ger
Wadsworth, again an author who wrote about Low. We managed to as* .uestions to
1rs. 1c4affery, a Girl Scout troop leader and all of these interviews helped up
gather
information on Juliette Gordon Low. -fter careful consideration, we decided to d
o a
website. &oing a website allows us to all wor* on it all together but not necess
arily in the
same location. 0t also allows us to convey our creativity using words, pictures,
and
videos.
We spent much of our time over the last few months wor*ing to fill our website
with reliable information. We tried to ma*e it simple to understand and read whi
le
*eeping it as historically accurate as possible. /he bac*ground we chose was was
the
Girl Scout trefoil. 0t represents the part of the Girl Scout 5romise. We believe
we
conducted our research well and pic*ed a good topic to do our $ational %istory &
ay
website entry.
