Correlational Research: Definition

and Culture

definition

purpose

Collecting data to determine

whether, and to what degree, a
relationship exist between two or
more quantifiable variables

May be to determine relations

among variables (i.e; relationship
study) or to use this relations to
make predictions, (i.e; a prediction
study)

The Correrational Research Process

Problem selection
The relation
should be a
logical one

suggested by theory

or derived from experience.

Participant and instrument selection

The sample is selected by using
acceptable sampling method and
sample size, minimal 30
participants
It is important to select or develop
valid and reliable measures for the
variables.

Design and procedure

Basic research design is scores for two (or more) variables of
interest are obtained for each member of the sample, in paired
scores are then correlated.
