Dear Senior Project STEM Panel:
My goal for this paper is to include the history and medical effects of performance enhancing
drugs (PED), and scandals leading to strict bans on PED use in athletic competition. I will prove
the appropriateness of anti-doping policy in professional athletic events. PEDs have been used
by athletes since ancient times. Roman gladiators of the original Olympic Games are a great
example of this. Performance enhancing drugs are commonly known as anabolic steroids, a drug
that promotes muscle growth. This topic came to my attention because of the bodybuilding
competition that I want to enter in is an all natural event. My guiding question throughout my
paper is why are PEDs banned in professional athletic events?
Ive always had an interest in health and physical fitness. For my product, I will assemble a
portfolio of my nutrition, exercise regime, and progress photos for display day. My learning
stretch is competing in a bodybuilding event in the springtime. I chose to do a Northwest Natural
show because it is an all natural bodybuilding competition, connecting to my paper. I chose
STEM as my center. I have requested Mrs. Friend as my mentor to work with me because she
has experience in competing. The costs might range from $200-$400 total; this includes event
fees, drug testing, attire, coaching, etc.
To organize my efforts, I will be recording my training, diet, and tracking progress and all body
changes. I have just begun my research process. I will include my experience in watching my
first competition in September. In addition, I have an Instagram page solely dedicated to my
fitness journey. For sources, I have made connections to woman around the treasure valley whom
are in the bodybuilding world to help with my research process. I will be interviewing Kori
Davis, a former competitor.
