candidates,unpreparedforthequestion,skewerthemselvesbyrambling,recapping
theirlifestory,delvingintoancientworkhistoryorpersonalmatters.
BESTANSWER: Startwiththepresentandtellwhyyouarewellqualifiedforthe
position.Rememberthatthekeytoallsuccessfulinterviewingistomatchyour

younowfeelalittleashamedof.
TRAPS: Therearesomequestionsyourinterviewerhasnobusinessasking,andthisis
one.Butwhileyoumayfeellikeanswering,noneofyourbusiness,naturallyyoucant.
Someinterviewersaskthisquestiononthechanceyouadmittosomething,butifnot,at
leasttheyllseehowyouthinkonyourfeet.
Someunpreparedcandidates,flusteredbythisquestion,unburdenthemselvesofguilt
fromtheirpersonallifeorcareer,perhapsexpressingregretsregardingaparent,
spouse,child,etc.Allsuchanswerscanbedisastrous.

Whenyougetthissilenttreatmentafteransweringaparticularlydifficultquestion,such
astellmeaboutyourweaknesses,itsintimidatingeffectcanbemostdisquieting,even
topolishedjobhunters.
Mostunpreparedcandidatesrushintofillthevoidofsilence,viewingprolonged,
uncomfortablesilencesasaninvitationtoclearupthepreviousanswerwhichhas
obviouslycausedsomeproblem.Andthatswhattheydorambleon,sputteringmore
andmoreinformation,sometimesirrelevantandoftendamaging,becausetheyare
