Absenteeism
Absenteeismis a habitualpatternof absence
from adutyorobligation.
A pattern of habitual absence by an employee.
Absenteeism is costly to employers, negatively
impacts productivity, and stresses employees
who do show up to work.
Without any valid reason taking off from job is
absenteeism.

Supposed Causes of
Absenteeism
Work Pressure
When the work pressure goes up,
absenteeism rate too will go up.
Relationship with Superiors
Employees, especially junior positions
would rather not report to work in a bid to
avoid confrontation with their demanding
bosses or as an act of defiance.
Job Satisfaction
Absenteeism will occur when employees
level of satisfaction is lower than what they
would accept in their daily work.

Employees can be of two types

Following are some of the solutions for


frequent absence of the employees:
examine the workplace environment.
Is the work repetitive? If yes then provide
incentives.
Have a strict sick leave policy.
Listen to employees reason behind the
leave.
Give warnings and in extreme cases
terminate them from their job.

But what if the organization


cannot afford to terminate them?
If the employee is a permanent staff,
try working on an improvement plan
together with them as you yourself or
the other staff might be the reason
behind the absence.
