Graduate Student Participation Grants


The TRB Committee on Aviation System Planning is pleased to announce the availability of up
to four grants to provide financial assistance to enable suitably qualified graduate students to
attend the 9th National Aviation System Planning Symposium. The grants will cover the cost of
symposium registration and three nights accommodation at the Wild Dunes Resort at the doubleoccupancy room rate. Awardees will be responsible for their travel to and from the symposium.
The Wild Dunes Resort is located on the Atlantic coast on Isle of Palms, South Carolina,
16 miles east of downtown Charleston and 23 miles from Charleston International Airport (CHS).

Eligibility
Applicants for the student participation grants should be full-time students in a graduate program
relevant to aviation system planning, such as aviation, transportation engineering, public policy,
city and regional planning, etc. Preference will be given to students with experience
participating in sponsored research on a topic related to aviation system planning or who are
preparing a thesis on a relevant topic.
Responsibilities
Students who are awarded a participation grant will be expected to attend one or both of the two
TRB committee meetings being held in conjunction with the symposium in order to gain an
appreciation of TRB committee activities. Awardees will also be expected to take notes for two
sessions and assist in preparing a summary of the sessions for the symposium proceedings.

Students interested in applying for one of the participation grants should send a 1 to 2 page
application letter by e-mail by March 16, 2015 to:

The letter should provide full contact information and indicate:
University, department and program in which currently enrolled
Current degree goal, date entered program, and expected graduation date
Name, e-mail address, and telephone number of faculty adviser
Applicants should discuss their interest in aviation system planning, list relevant coursework
already taken and/or their planned thesis topic, and describe any relevant research experience.
