Clothing Classroom Layout

I designed a classroom for the Clothing I and II classes.

#1- Quick and easy access between any two points in the room. I made sure to
include wide aisles between each row of desks, storage areas, and other work areas. This way,
students and the teacher can easily get from one point of the room to another.
#4- Small-group activity areas for cooperative groups to conduct their business. I
separated the desks into three sections, with desks facing each other to encourage cooperation
between students. There are also large tables in the front of the room for cutting material, but the
teacher will also use them for instruction at the beginning of each class period.
#5- Storage space for equipment and materials to be kept out of sight. I placed shelves
for students to store their materials in their own cubbies, as well as closets to hang any sewing
materials that students would not want to get wrinkled.

#9- A private room in which (the teacher) can hold uninterrupted conferences with
individuals (e.g., a student with his or her parents) when a class is not in session. I placed a door
at the corner of the room for entrance to an office for the teacher. Along with a desk and other
equipment, there are chairs available for conferences.
#10- A two-way communication device (e.g., a telephone) with which she can quickly
summon backup support in crisis situations. I placed a phone in the office in case the teacher
would need to make a call to the office, administration, a parent, etc. There would also be some
type of button to press that would signal the office at the front of the classroom.
