The Legend of the Condor: A long time ago, a young woman lived in the

highlands near Quilotoa. One day she saw a young man. He was tall and
handsome. He wore a poncho and he had a white scarf around his neck. The
next day the young woman saw the man again. She smiled. Then the man
came towards her and he kissed her. He took-off his poncho. The young woman
saw a pair of huge wings. She screamed, "agh'' but the man-bird took her in his
claws. He flew with her to his nest in the mountains. The village people saw the
man-bird with the young woman. They climbed up the mountain to the condor's
nest. They found the young woman and they took her home. That night her
parents locked her bedroom door. She cried all night. The next day she did not
eat or drink. The next day and the next day and the next day she cried. Then
one day, two wings came out of her body. Suddenly her parents heard a laugh.
They ran to the young woman's room. They unlocked the door. They saw their
daughter flying out of the window. She flew towards the nest of her beloved.
Today, young women in the highlands are still a little afraid when a huge condor
flies over the mountains.
