Academic Success Program

Goal: The goal of the Academic Success Program is to help participating students be successful at
Rosemount High School. Students will encounter new pressures and higher stakes in the high school
environment so starting with a positive first trimester is critical to ensure future successes.
What: A small-group study skills class, consisting of 7-10 students, that meets every day for one
period. The class is facilitated by a licensed teacher whose full-time job is to support students in the
program and coordinate additional services when needed.
Why: The Academic Success Program has been developed to offer additional support to 9th grade
students who have had a history of academic struggles. Studies continue to suggest that the 9th Grade
year is critical for predicting the future success of students both academically and socially.
Rosemount High School is currently in the process of analyzing our 9th Grade Transition program.
We are striving to better educate and support 9th Graders as they attempt to make the adjustment to
life as a high school student.
When: The Academic Success Program meets every day during one regular class period. Upon
successful completion of the course each trimester, students will receive an elective credit. On a
daily basis, students would receive academic help that includes completing assignments, preparing
for tests, and assistance with written papers and projects. In addition, participating students would
also receive support in developing time management and organizational skills, literacy skills, study
skills, and other strategies that would enable Academic Success Program students to be successful at
Rosemount High School.
How: Your child was recommended to benefit from the Academic Success Program after working
closely with administrators and guidance counselors at Rosemount Middle School and Scott
Highlands Middle School. If your son/daughter has a full allotment of registered classes for next
year, a drop of an elective class will need to be considered in order to make room for the Academic
Success Program. Classes that could be dropped and possibly retaken the following year include
foreign language, music, technical education, typing, photography, art, or Family and Consumer
Science. Please fill out, sign and return the enclosed yellow form by June 13th.
