TCC Cycling Most common on governor controlled models due to bad temp
sensor. May be very intermittent. Bad TPS, even if it checks OK, is common on
Diesels. Also faulty signals from Neutral Saftey Switch or Vehicle Speed Sensor.
Dealer has reflash for many 98/99 diesel trucks with this problem.
Sets code (PO783) for TCC Slip Late model units now have ratio detection and
can set codes for slip like GM and Ford. You must not install Dummy Lock up
converters this includes all OBD-II vehicles and 96 up FWD 3 Speeds.
No TCC Unlock and/or No 4-3 Downshift May happen even with perfect vehicle
electronics due to clogged or restricted OD/TCC solenoids or solenoid feed screens.
Sets Trans Temp Code - Only models with FACTORY installed trans cooler had a
trans temp sensor. Models that had no FACTORY installed cooler/Temp sensor may
set temp sensor codes. Ignore them AS LONG AS THERE IS NO TEMP SENSOR.
Kills engine in reverse or feels very draggy in reverse. (All lockup models) Inner pump gear worn into stator/excessive pump clearance. Minimum line in
reverse is regulated to be approx 160 psi. If the pump is not capable of producing
this pressure, there will be no converter front feed to keep the lockup clutch plate
forced off front cover [released]. Restricted coolers also cause this complaint. When
chasing this complaint the 1st thing to do is loop the cooler lines for a test.
No movement (forward or reverse or both) after valve body work. Channel
casting may require one, two, or NO checkballs. Check Ball RULE: If any ball is
installed into pocket in channel casting, there MUST BE 2 holes in plate over ball
location. One big hole (ball seat) and one small hole (feed hole).
No Reverse or slips in reverse Incorrect OD section set-up, collapsed OD direct
spring. May be due to direct clutch misassembly such as too few or wrong direct
plates used.
Kills engine in gear, runs rough, hard to start, engine may stumble going into
Lockup Engine speed sensor on rear of engine out of position due to bent
mounting bracket.
Breaks front drum piston, tears lip off seal, blows low & reverse piston retainer
out of case Spacer plug missing from the auxiliary boost valve train under 3 bolt
plate, top side of main valve body. Can cause reverse pressure of 600 and up.
