And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after

the fire a still small voice. (1 Kings 19:12 KJV)

We have all had the time in life when we have fervently prayed for God to
reveal things to us. We ask God to show us the direction in which we
should go but yet we dont see our answer.

Where is God?
Thats the question we ask. We look everywhere yet dont see Him. We
genuinely search for a sign or a direction yet we arent seeing God
anywhere. While looking for the BIG sign, we tend to overlook the small
ones.

Hes speaking. Be quiet and listen.

Lets look back at Elijah in 1Kings 19. Here Elijah is running hard and fleeing
from Jezebel. He was at one of the very lowest points in his life. He felt like
he had done everything he could and yet he still wasnt enough. He even
asked God to take his life because death seemed so much better loneliness
and fatigue and continuously running from the evil Jezebel. Hopelessly, he
went to sleep.
Elijah awoke to an angel who fed him bread and gave him water. This meal
held the substantial nutrients that Elijah needed to travel for 40 days to
Horeb, the mountain of God.
Sleeping inside a cave is where Gods voice was clear to Elijah saying,
Where are you doing here, Elijah?
Elijah exploded, spilling all the events that had occurred in the recent days.
He was completely honest with God and confessed everything he had been
doing wrong and his many concerns. Putting everything Elijah said aside,
God commanded Elijah to go to the mountain and wait for the Lords
presence.
As He waited, a mighty wind came and tore mountains and shattered cliffs.
Yet the Lord wasnt in the wind.
Then a large, terrifying earthquake came and shook the whole mountain.
But yet again the Lord wasnt in the earthquake.

After the earthquake, a fire set ablaze the mountainside. And still the Lord
wasnt in the fire.

Then Elijah heard a voice, a soft whisper.

And finally, the Lord revealed himself in the whisper, capturing Elijahs full
attention.
Just like Elijah in this passage we have rough patches and fall so far from
God. We feel as if the road is to long and treacherous and are ready to
simply give up. But even in those moments, God is ready to take our hand
and lead us through the confusions.

Though we may want God to speak though a large

production, often He communicates through much
simpler means.
Although we may expect it to be, Gods voice isnt always loud and
powerful, but God regularly speaks in a whisper. One reason for this is that
God wants you to draw into a close relationship with him. Like whispering to
your friend, in order for them to hear you have to lean in and get close.

Its the same way with God.

When He whispers to us, hes inviting us to lean into our relationship with
Him, to get even closer than we mat have ever been in the past.
Lets pray
Hey God, I pray that you will help me to be lean in and listen to you. Help
me to stop talking over your still, small voice. Let me to realize that your
guidance wont always be given to me in some earthshaking moment. I
pray that I will have an assurance that you will provide your answers in
your timing and not my own. In Jesus Name, Amen.
