Dear Portfolio Committee:
It is with great honor and excitement that I write this letter of promise for Kali Odell. She is a
caring and motivational member of the Student Development Administration community, and
has made a positive impact on many during her time in the program. Working alongside Kali as
an Academic Advisor in the Albers School of Business and Economics has been a rewarding and
fulfilling experience. I have the pleasure of considering Kali a close friend, colleague, and
classmate in the SDA program.
As an advisor, Kali is dedicated to helping students draw connections between personal passions,
academic interests, and future career goals. Kalis inquisitive, yet caring nature has allowed her
to master the balance of challenging and supporting students. From my experience with Kali, she
utilizes active listening skills and developmental advising techniques to better understand
students and assist them in the best way possible. I believe she is committed to using guidance
and support to help students grow throughout their collegiate experience.
Furthermore, Kali challenges herself to be an ethical student affairs practitioner on a daily basis.
Her background in Political Science has accorded her with an ability to understand the
importance of ethical practice in higher education. She promotes collaboration and community
building to establish an ethical environment, and uses this collaboration for positive change. Kali
has demonstrated ethical leadership through her work with the University of Puget Sound as a
Title IX Conduct Intern. After learning about her internship experience, it is evident that Kali is
willing to make suggestions and provide feedback to improve policies and procedures on
campus. Her practice of ethical leadership is inspiring to many in the SDA community, and I
know she will continue to work towards equity and ethical change.
In addition to understanding the importance of ethical leadership, Kali values the practice of selfreflection and introspection. I appreciate that Kali is also willing to help others reflect in addition
to her own practice of self-reflection. I greatly appreciate the conversations and opportunities
Kali has given me to reflect and grow from my professional and personal experiences.
I am excited for Kali to continue her journey in student development. I know that she has great
potential to create change within her community, and I look forward to seeing where her passions
take her. I write this letter of promise with great confidence that Kali will enhance the field of
student affairs with her leadership, compassion, and mentorship.
May the force be with you,

Amy Clawson
