MultiGround
MultiGround+, MultiGround and AutoGround are three powerful and high precision software
packages dedicated to grounding analyses and conductive coupling studies. SES has developed
these packages for engineers and scientists who specialize in grounding and conductive interference
and who demand accurate, no-compromise solutions. The RESAP, MALT and FCDIST engineering
modules make up the core of these software packages.

Carry out and interpret resistivity measurements using Wenner, Schlumberger, or DipoleDipole techniques... or select your own arbitrary electrode spacing configuration. Select
horizontal, vertical or exponential multilayered soil structures.
Analyze complex power system ground networks composed of arbitrarily oriented conductors
located in multilayered soils (vertical, horizontal, spherical or cylindrical) or in soils with finite
volumes with other resistivities, such as water upstream and downstream of a dam!
Hybrid energization by current or voltage can be applied to different conductor groups in the
same simulation.
Investigate transferred potentials and currents diverted to uncoated pipelines or other
metallic structures due to energized ground conductor networks.
Determine distortion effects caused by the proximity of multiple grounding networks.
Simulate complex anode beds and examine cathodic protection problems involving uncoated
buried pipelines (use MultiFields for coated pipes)
Interpret ground resistance measurements made using the Fall-of-Potential method and
other techniques.
Determine the fault current distribution between grounding systems and overhead ground
wires, skywires, counterpoises, and other metallic paths.
You can automatically generate safety tables of touch and step voltages determined
according to national, international or your own specific standards, as well as plots of grid
"hotspots," to help you quickly refine your grounding designs.
You can very easily focus on dangerous zones and identify overdesigned regions to optimize
your final design.

AUTOGROUND
AutoGround is similar to MultiGround, except that it handles uniform and two-Layer Horizontal soil
grounding analyses. Note that AutoGround accurately interprets soil resistivity measurements
corresponding to multilayered soil structures. AutoGround includes the RESAP, MALT and FCDIST
engineering modules.

MULTIGROUND+
MultiGround+ is a version of MultiGround that has been extended to include the MultiLines package
thereby adding the TRALIN and SPLITS engineering modules. The additional capabilities are:
Determines inductive and capacitive interference between energized and nonenergized
conductors or metallic paths sharing the same right-of-way.
Computes conductor and cable constants (parameters) and capacitive and electromagnetic
induction effects.
Develops detailed circuit models to calculate load and short-circuit current distributions in
every section of a multiconductor, multi-phase power network, whether balanced or not.
Analyzes complex, multi-phase, multi-winding transformers in full detail. Built-in singlephase and 3-phase multi-winding transformer models, including autotransformers, are also
available.

MULTIGROUNDZ
This package adds the following features to the MultiGround software, making it the preferred tool
for the study of large substations and plants:
Calculation of longitudinal impedances and voltage drops in grounding grid conductors.
Whereas these voltage drops are scarcely noticeable in small grounding grids or even in
large grounding grids in high resistivity soils, they can have a considerable influence on
medium to large sized grounding grids in low to moderate soil resistivities or on long
conductors such as pipes. Software that neglects voltage drops in grid conductors can

conductors such as pipes. Software that neglects voltage drops in grid conductors can
dramatically underestimate grounding requirements near high voltage equipment and
overestimate grounding requirements everywhere else. By accounting for conductor
impedances, MALZ provides improved safety and reduced construction costs. MALZ also
allows you to estimate voltage stresses on control cables running between two parts of an
installation.
Modeling of coated conductors, such as pipelines and insulated cables. This means that you
can calculate electrical potentials transferred to nearby buried pipes, associated coating
stress or touch voltages, and potentials transferred by these pipes to remote locations. You
can also correctly account for the grounding afforded by pipelines: these can easily reduce
the ground impedance of a grounding grid by an order of magnitude and eliminate what
might otherwise appear to be a major problem.
Multiple current injections, each with its own magnitude and phase angle, into different parts
of each grounding system modeled, in order to account for circulating currents and the stress
voltages they incur. This replaces the voltage energization available in plain MultiGround.
High frequency impedance of the grounding system.
Magnetic field calculation (above grade).
Polarized potential can be specified on each conductor for cathodic protection studies.
This additional power is obtained by adding the more complete MALZ program in the MultiGround
package.
