Technology Professional Development Plan

Presenter: Miss Monique Porter


Audience: Green Valley 2nd and 3rd grade teachers
This PD will be presented during a Wednesday collaboration . Teachers will be
asked to bring their iPads to participate in a hands-on demonstration of the tool.
Topic: How to Use Animated Voic Tools in the Classroom
Reason for PD:
Voki is a really great way to tie in technology in the classroom. This
application provides an interactive and engaging way for students to participate
in an oral discussion or presentation using an animated or their own voice that is
connected to their personal avatar (online character). The reason I am aiming
the use of this tool toward ELA and writing is because I have noticed over the
years how those quiet, shy, or students with disabilities dont really get their fair
share in participating fully with the class during oral presentations. This
application will give these students a voice.
It is also useful for teachers to change up their teaching by providing an
interactive tool to enhance discussions or provide a way to give students
directions without being physically present. I want the teachers and students to
try this at least once in their classrooms and send me feedback on how well it
worked or how much of a distraction it is in the classroom.

In this training educators will learn how to enhance their core content
units by using animated voice tools as a part of their lessons. They will see a
demonstration by me on how to setup a teacher and classroom account, and how
to create the avatar or voki presenter. I will also provide them with other
resources that are more user-friendly and practical for everyday use. Later, We
will setup and create an account with the Voki application and create our own
presenter. Teachers will learn that this tool can be used in any content area.

Finding ways to integrate technology in the classroom is all about


enhancing what you are teaching, so my hope is to have more technology PDs like
this one to introduce new tools and provide refreshers on previous ones. Thus,
teachers will build confidence in allowing the tools to help drive their teaching
and engage the students.
