BAYVILLE ELEMENTARY SHOWS RESILIENCE AFTER SANDY,

WINS SUSTAINABLE ARTS FESTIVAL
BAYVILLE, N.J. Bayville Elementary School will host an environmentally themed art
festival worth up to $10,000 after Young Audiences New Jersey & Eastern Pennsylvania named
it a recipient of the 2015 NRG Energy Creatively Green Award.
The award, sponsored by Princeton-based energy company NRG Energy Inc., promotes
environmental awareness by supporting family-oriented events with a sustainable focus.
Though 16 schools in New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania applied for the award, Young
Audiences selected Bayville as one of four recipients partly due to the challenges it faced in the
wake of Hurricane Sandy. After the storm, financial pressures forced the school to cancel free
events it had previously held for the community.
Principal Mary Guinman said she is proud of the schools commitment to education in light of
the difficult situation.
Our school family finds a way to teach and enrich students and works tirelessly, handin-hand to give our families the best that we can, Guinman said.
The festival awarded to Bayville will feature arts and crafts stations, a community-wide
art project, and a dynamic performance. Event activities will all incorporate an environmental
sustainability theme. NRG employees and Young Audiences artists will volunteer their time to
put on the event, which will last two to three hours.

Bayville Elementary School was established in 1927 as the first school in the Berkeley
Township School District. With a total enrollment of 425 students, it includes preschool through
