Lab Title
: Circuit Theory 1/Circuit Analysis 1
Experiment 5: Methods of Analysis
Objectives:

Test the mesh analysis approach with experimental measurements

Demonstrate that the validity of the nodal-analysis technique trough experimental
measurements

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the session the students should be able to:
Recognize the serial and parallel connections on the trainer board.
Construct electrical circuit with two voltage sources.
Measure the voltage and current in each branch.
Verify the theorem stated from the readings and results obtained.
Equipment Required
Resistors

: 1.2k, 2.2k, 3.3k and 4.7k

Instruments : DMM and DC power supplies

Safety Measures:

Part 1

Mesh Analysis

a) Construct the network of Fig 5.0 and insert the measured values of the resistors in the
spaces provided.

b) Using Mesh Analysis, calculate the mesh currents I1 and I2 of the network. Use the
measured resistors values and the indicated directions for the mesh currents. Then
determine the current through each resistor and insert it in Table 5.0 in the
Calculated column. Include all your calculations.

c) Measure the voltages V1, V2 and V3 and enter here with the minus sign for any
polarity that is opposite to that in Figure 5.0

d) Calculate the currents IR1, IR2 and IR3 using the measured voltage and resistor values
and insert in Table 5.0 as the measured values. Be sure to include a minus sign if the
current direction is opposite to that defined by the polarity of the voltage across the
resistor.
