NLC O-Level English Writing Examination

1st Quarter Exam, 2015


Instructions:

You have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete this paper.

Write the question number that you are answering at the top of your examination sheets.

There are two sections: Directed Writing and Creative Writing.

You MUST answer the question in the Directed Writing section.

Choose and answer ONE question from the Creative Writing section.

For each question, you are advised to spend 5 minutes planning your answer and 30 minutes it.

You are not allowed to use a dictionary in this test.

Section 1: Directed Writing (Total Marks: 20)


Your friend has asked you about your school. Write a letter to your friend and
include the following: Why you joined the school.
What subjects and activities you are doing in your school.
What you like and dislike about your school.
Your school may be fictional or it may be based on your real school. You are
required to write a minimum of 150 words in your letter.

Section 2: Creative Writing (Total Marks: 20)


Choose and answer ONE of the following questions. You are required to write a
minimum of 200 words in your answer.
1. Describe the people and things that you saw in a foreign country.
2. You are home alone and there is a loud knock on your door. Write a story
describing what happens after that.
3. How to keep fit.
4. The advantages and disadvantages of living in a country with four seasons.
5. Your favourite pet.
