Molluscum Contagiosum
Definition
Molluscum Contagiosum (MC) is a benign but
troublesome viral infection
most often affect young children.
smooth, dome-shaped, discrete, opalescent
papules with a central core that occasionally
develops surrounding areas of scale and
erythema .

Etiology

4 types of poxvirus

Epidemiology

Infection with MCV is worldwide.


Three groups are primarily affected: young
children, sexually active adults and
immunosuppressed persons
Molluscum is most easily transmitted by
direct skin-to-skin contact, especially if the
skin is wet.
