On Tuesday, March 24th, Grade 5 students will be participating in a lesson on Puberty in the classroom. Lessons will be provided in separate venues for boys and girls and will focus on the physical, emotional and hormonal changes that take place during puberty, with emphasis on health and hygiene during this very important stage in their lives. The lesson will be approximately 60 minutes in length and will be followed up with a question & answer session. We believe it is very important for your child to receive information about puberty and body changes in a structured way, presented by adults they are familiar and comfortable with. The girls session will be facilitated by Ms. Leiske and Ms. Ashenden accompanied by our school nurse, Ms. Torreon, with Ms. Band, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Brews, Ms. Ryan and Mrs. Moquin attending. The boys session will be facilitated by Mr. Nelson, Mr. Hart and Mr. Wheeldon attending. Understanding that this puberty lesson will be taking place will help you to initiate conversations at home with your child and will prepare you to be supportive of any questions your child may ask you. All information that will be shared with students in their lesson can be shared with you through a Power Point document upon request. If you do NOT wish for your child to participate in the puberty lesson on March 24th, please email your childs teacher. Alternative arrangements will be made for non-participating students that day.
