Biography
Allessandro di Mariano Fillepi Botticelli was born in 1445 in Florence, Italy where he worked as a goldsmith in his
early years.
At the age of 14, Botticelli convinced his father that he wanted to study paintings and was chosen to be
apprentice for the well-known painter Fillipo Lippi.
By the age of 15, he had his own workshop and he chose to have many apprentices which helped his produce
large amounts of commissioned work.
In 1481, Botticelli was invited to Rome to take part decorating the walls of the Sistine Chapel. In all, Botticelli
painted three large pieces, as well as seven papal portraits in the Sistine Chapel.
Botticelli's achievements lessened after coming under the influence of the controversial Florentine monk,
Savonarola.
Despite his success as an altarpiece painter, Botticelli struggled to keep pace with the revolutionary changes
taking place in art during this time.
Sandro Botticelli died at the age of 65.
After his death much of his works were overlooked only becoming prominent again in the 19 th century.

2nd point-Lippi helped Sandro discover a similar style of painting like him own and Botticelli was quickly
recognized as a gifted artist.

Italian art.
5th point-Savonarola encouraged the burning of many works of art and books, which were deemed to be
ungodly, and being a follower of Savonarola, Botticelli took part in destroying many of his own paintings.
6th point-The arrival of Leonardo Di Vinci and Michelangelo on the artistic landscape pushed Botticelli's work
further away from the spotlight.
7th point-The details of the last part of his life remain a mystery.
