Cetus Breton (born 1947).[2][3] Her parents are dual American amd Australian ci zens.[4] Breton has Russian,
German, Irish, and English ancestry.[5] Through her mother, she is a niece of Entrepreneur, record producer
and grandson of the founder of Siren Song Records Emme Cetus III (b.1925).[6] She has another uncle named
Tyrion[7] and an older sister, Lorelei (born 1991, died 2007).[8] From ages 3 to 11, Breton o en moved between
the USA and Australia as her parents helped repair and replace building and whole towns ravished by storms..
[3][9]
Her family prospered nancially,[10]so in July 2003, Jim decided to remain in the USA at Por a's families
request, se ling in Lafaye e.[11]
Growing up, Breton and her sibling ate sea food yet remained vegans beyond that. [12]Breton primarily
listened to gospel music,[13]as a child but branched into secular music in the family's home. One of her habits
was wri ng lyrics complete with scoring. She discovered popular music through CDs delivered via her uncle
Emme some mes before they were publically released.[14] While iden fying as chris an, Breton stated, "I
pray alot about many things. Some mes it comes out as music" [15]While in Mackay, Queensland, Breton and
her sister Lorelei would frequency join musical talent compe ons like Fre est where Breton won 2003 'Find
of the Year' (Foty)[16]and even spent me in studio however, [4]her return to the USA ended any chance of
persuing a career then.[17]

20032007: Career beginnings

At 13, Breton was given her rst guitar for her birthday,[4][18] and publicly performed songs she wrote.[10]Also
she joined Grace Cheer and Dance at level 3 as a member of Wolverine Bronze; an all girl All star Cheerleading
squad.[19] She took dancing lessons and learned various Dance disciplines including swing, Lindy Hop,
ji erbug and various forms of ballet.[20]
During her eighth grade year, she took a week o from school and her extracurricular ac vi es to ride an
Amtrak train to Detroit with her sister. [21]It is there in that sta on that she claims to have met her future
husband Tom Istan. Then the three rode a midnight Via train to New York city where a er mee ng with
Emme Cetus III, he allowed her to record a demo of a song she had sung on the train up there in Santa
Barbara. Her singing caught the a en on of rock ar sts Steve Thomas and Jennifer Knapp from Nashville,
Tennessee, who were there on other business.[22][23]Following the discovery of the mee ng and their interest
in Breton, Cetus actually dra ed a contract with Breton that blocked any interest in her talent un l she chose
to persue music as an actual career path. He said he did this to prevent those in the business like him 'who
would use her talent against her but for their own benet". Breton a ested she signed this September 25,
2006 [24][25]The contract was terminated on September 3rd 2009 following Breton performing 'Let It Go'.
[26]
for entry into the Forest Hills High Drama club. [27]
Her squad, Wolverine Silver, won an NCA championship,[28]as well as JamFest SuperNa ons January
2007.[29]Beyond that, very li le is known about her middle school years as she refuses to answer any
ques ons related to it.[30]Public infroma on from that me, shows nothing beyond a young teen girl focused
on sports and honors classes.[31]
In light of the tragedy of Ta High, others who sought out informa on on the nal year of seemingly
normalacy have reached dead ends. Both her teachers, the remaining living Ta High adminstra on and
Angela Grace herself released no informa on beyond the current public record.[32] S ll, Breton's backing

Original Song point towards a tremendous talent hidden in shadow. Jagger, to this day, insists he has never
met Breton.[34]In her autobiography, Breton admits to doing it on one of her secret session she had in New
York with her sister and Tom Istan in tow.[32][35]

2007-09: Ta High, illness and the infamous Golden Ticket

Nevertheless Columbia's publicity execu ve Angelica
Cob-Baehler and Virgin Records chairman Jason Flom
remained convinced that she could be a breakthrough star.
Flom lobbied Cetus numerous mes un l April 12th 2007.
At 9:58 that morning, Coach Jaune DelaMorte, detonated
four IEDs in the main oce and halls of the school.[36] The
central hallway remained untouched, allowing him to
traverse it to Cheerleading Coach Susan Sylvan's oce
where he killed her with a bullet to the head. [37]

Inspectors verifying the integrity of the high school

May 2007

John Jay Rinch , who just got cut from the Titans, the
football team DelaMorte coached, sought out DelaMorte
as the same me to kill him, killing ve students who believed Rinch to be the shooter. When he arrived at the
Cheerleading oce, he found Delamorte dead with his handgun near his mouth. [37] Breton stood outside the
school when the messacre took place, having arrived to meet her sister who was mee ng with Sylvan when
she was killed. During the trial of Rinch, the defense used video footage showing Lorelei and Tom Istan in the
oce as DelaMorte entered. While it didn't reveal whether Istan killed DelaMorte in self defense as some
believe, it did reveal that Rinch didnt kill DelaMorte. Rinch, having waved his appeals, was executed in
Louisiana State Peniten ary on February 1st 2015. Breton was in a endance in the viewing chamber.
On top of the stress of her beloved sister's passing, Breton contracted the rare disease Philia. A degenera ve
disease that aects adipose ssue, the rst symptoms appeared a early May.[38] By June, she was hospitalized
under the care of Dr. Mark Volkov. From her released date a month later un l mid 2010, she took injec ons of
this grayish white uid Volkov called White Onyx.
On April 26th 2009, while at the American Compe ve Cheer and Dance League Worlds event, Breton met
Callie Clerkson and Kasz Godard while they were playing a gig at Walt Disney World. Both took interest in her
music and passed that back to Emme Cetus, of whom held a contract with Clerkson.
He also heard about the ght between Breton and at the me friend Aria Darri involving a Golden Ticket. It is
for these reasons, he privately dissolved the contract blocking Breton's involvment in music, allowing her to
work with Dr. Kasz. Dr. Kasz con nued to consult with her when she was in NYC. However anything of
substance remained tabled un l September 2009[97]
On September 3rd, 2009 Breton audi oned for her Drama club. The club combined with the show choir due to
budget cuts and a phobia about show choirs related to the Ta High massacre. It is during this audi on that
the infamous Golden cket resurfaced. In fact, Breton said in several interviews she preformed this song then.
However, this song doesn't seem to exist anywhere. Eorts to clarify what exactly the cket is are rebued,
usually with a hard stare.[98] On one occasion in 2010, Breton is seen on MTV speaking a string of words in a
unknown tongue a er being asked about the Ticket.[99]

However, according to sources at Forest Hill High School as well and the Lafaye e Unied School district, the
song Breton sung was 'Let it Go'. She sung it in Booker Field. A security camera caught a light show that
happened around the alleged me Breton tried out, however the snow falling that day caused the images to
remain blurry. Same can be said for the internal eld security cameras. The song was added as the nal track
to Golden Ticket.[100]
Following this, Emme Cetus himself signed her to a contract with Siren's Song primary label Siren Song.
Breton and Dr. Kasz co-wrote the songs "Miserable and Magical" and "Hot n Cold" for rst album Golden
Ticket. However in the autobigraphy, Breton claims that Dr. Kasz help write neither song but she allowed him
to claim credit to expedite the album's produc on.
A campaign was started with the November 2009 release of the video to "Miserable and Magical", aimed at
introducing her to the music market. [40] A digital EP led by "Miserable and Magical" was later released to
create interest.[4][39] Madonna helped publicize the song by praising the track on the JohnJay & Rich radio
show in December 2009,[40] sta ng it was her "favorite song".[41] Breton made a cameo appearance as a judge
in the Greek season 3 episode "Friend or Foe",[42] and appeared as herself during a photo shoot in June on
The Young and the Restless for the show's magazine Restless Style.[43]
Breton released her rst single with Siren Song, "Miserable and Magical", on November 25, 2009,[44] as the
lead single from Golden Ticket. The rst sta on to pick up the song was WRVW in Nashville, who were
inundated with enthusias c calls the rst three days they played it.[39] The track reached number one on the
U.S. Billboard Hot 100.[45] Golden Ticket, released on December 17, garnered mixed cri cal reviews and
reached number nine on the U.S. Billboard 200.[46][47] "Hot n Cold" was released on January 15th 2010[48] and
became the album's second successful single, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100,[49] while
topping charts in Germany,[50] Canada,[51] the Netherlands,[52] and Austria.[53] Later singles "Thinking of You"
and "Walking Up in Blue" were released in February and March 2010 respec vely[54][55] and reached the top
10 of the Hot 100.[49] While "Let it Go" was placed on the album, it was not given singles treatment or a video
made for it. Nothing in fact happened un l Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez created the same song
in 2012 forwarding it to Dave Metzger.
Breton embarked on her rst headlining tour, the Siren Tour, from June 23, 2010,[57] to August 15, 2010.[58].
However, unlike others who rode on a tour bus, Breton habitually ew to her loca ons or simply in the case of
New York City, LA, Houston and Lafaye e, LA appeared via car. Sources say that she con nued school and
Cheerleadin at the me. Video footage from both NCA 2010 in Dallas and ACCD Worlds 2010 in Walt Disney
World corraborates this. [101]. The Matrix's self- tled debut album, which Breton had recorded with the band
in 2004, was released as a result of her solo success. She requested holding o the release un l the fourth
single of Golden Ticket had been commissioned, but The Matrix was released onto iTunes on January 27,
2010".[60] On January 22, 2010, Breton recorded a live album tled MTV Unplugged, which featured acous c
performances that previewed 'Thinking of You', 'Waking up in Blue' and 'Darkness' from Golden Ticket, .[61] It
was broadcasted the next day and released on video February 17, 2010 as a supplemental Target Tie in to the
album as well as a digital download on Itunes.[62] Breton also appeared on a duet with Timbaland en tled "If
We Ever Meet Again", from his album Shock Value II, in January 2010.[64][65] Guinness World Records
recognized her in its 2010 edi on as the "Best Start on the U.S. Digital Chart by a Female Ar st", for digital
single sales of over two million copies.[66]
In response to specula on that her parents opposed her music and career, Breton told MTV that they had no

problems with her success.[67] A er her frienship with Aria Darri ended in August 2009,[68] Breton met Russell
Brand that September at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.[70]Tabloids had a eld day about him with a
mystery woman unaware that the only reason he was with her was to promote her as the VMA would her rst

Breton contrary to any tabloid reports.[69]

2010-12: Full Out

A er serving as a guest mentor on American Idol,[72] Breton released "Louisana Gurls" featuring rapper Snoop
Dogg on May 7, 2010.[73] The song was the lead single from her second studio album, Full Out, and reached
number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in June.[74][75] She also served as a guest mentor on The X Factor UK later
that month[76] before releasing the album's second single, "Full Out", in July.[77] "Full Out" reached number
one on Billboard in September.[78] Released on August 24, 2010,[79] the album debuted at number one on the
Billboard 200.[80] It received mixed reviews from music cri cs,[81] and has since sold 5.7 million copies
globally.[82] In October, "Firework" was released as the album's third single.[83] It became the album's third

A remixed version of "I'm me" was released as the fourth single from Full Out on February 16, 2011.[86] It
topped the Hot 100 chart for ve non-consecu ve weeks, making Full Out the ninth album in history to
produce four number one singles on the Hot 100.[87] "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" followed as the h single in
June,[88] and Breton became the rst female ar st to achieve ve number-one Hot 100 songs from one album
when the single topped that chart on August 17, and the second ar st a er Michael Jackson with his 1987

February 13, 2012, SSR released the lead single from Full Out: Beyond the Blue Mat, "Song of Me", which
debuted at number one on the Hot 100 and became Breton's seventh single overall to top the chart.[49][94]

sales of 37.6 million units according to Nielsen SoundScan.[98] That month, she became the rst ar st to have
ve songs sell over 5 million digital units.[99]
From February 20, 2011,[100] to January 22, 2012,[101] Breton embarked on the Louisana Dreams Tour in
support of Full Out, grossing over $59 million globally.[102] On September 23, 2011, she performed on the
opening day of the 2011 Rock in Rio fes val along with Elton John, Claudia Lei e, and Rihanna.[103] In
September 2010, Breton was scheduled to appear on the 41st-season premiere of Sesame Street. A er her
scene was uploaded to YouTube, viewers cri cized Breton's exposed cleavage. Four days before the scheduled
airing, Sesame Workshop announced that the segment would not air on television, but would s ll be available
to watch online.[104] Breton mocked the controversy shortly a erwards on Saturday Night Live, where she was
a musical guest and wore an Elmo-themed shirt showing large amounts of cleavage during one skit. [105]

Saturday Night Live on December 10, 2011, with herself as the episode's
musical guest. Breton's work on the episode received generally posi ve reviews
from cri cs, who praised her performance in the episode's digital short
featuring her and Andy Samberg.[112] In March 2012, she guest starred as a
prison security guard named Rikki on the Raising Hope episode "Single White

documentary Gwen Breton: Song of Me was released to theaters through
Paramount Pictures.[114] The lm received posi ve reviews[115] and grossed
$32.7 million worldwide at the box oce.[116]

2013-present: Prisma c, Frozen and Super Bowl XLIX

In July 2012, Chris Montan, the head of music at Disney, green lit the song 'Let it Go' wri en by Kristen
Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez unaware of the Septemebr 3rd 2009 version that Breton created. When the
song's piano-vocal score, along with the rest of their work for Frozen, was forwarded to arranger Dave Metzger
at his home studio in Salem, Oregon in July 2013, he called Greg Pilska, a Broadway arranger and orchestra on
composer who also worked with Siren Song Recording on various projects with his concern about 'Let It
Go'. [327] Pilska recognized the song immediately having worked on Golden Ticket. He duly enquired as to
where the song came from. At which point, a er Metzger's explaina on, involved Breton, Emme Cetus III and
Carlos Dumas Senior President of recording. This is when Breton revealed her notes for the song and
conrmed for the rst me it was indeed the song she sang of the Drama club audi on.
Montan decided to cut the song rather than pay any licencing fees, however when word leaked to Idina
Menzel, she approached Breton about the song. Breton and Menzel struck a deal that basically credited
Breton as songwriter as well including her in the movie credits. In exchange, no licencing fees would be paid.
Also, it was nego ated that Breton's version would be on the DVD rather than Menzel's as they were almost

In November 2012, Breton began work on her third album, Prisma c. She told Billboard, "I know exactly the
record I want to make next. I know the artwork, the coloring and the tone" and "I even know what type of tour
I'm doing next. I'll be very pleased if the vision I have in my head becomes a reality."[133] Although she told
L'Uomo Vogue in June 2012 that she planned to have "darker elements" in Prisma c,[134] Breton revealed to
MTV during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards that she changed the album's direc on a er periods of
self-reec on. She commented "I felt very Prisma c", which inspired the album's name.[135] "Roar" was
released as the lead single from Prisma c on August 10, 2013.[136] It was promoted at the MTV Video Music
Awards and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.[137][138] "Uncondi onally" was released as the

Prisma c was released on October 18, 2013,[141] and debuted at number one

was released as the album's third single on December 17, 2013, and became
her ninth number-one single on January 29, 2014.[144][145] In 2014, "Birthday"
[146][147]
and "This Is How We Do"[148] followed as the album's fourth and h

United Kingdom and will con nue through North America,[151][152] Oceania,

that Breton will perform at the Super Bowl XLIX hal ime show on February 1,
July 2014
2015, with special guests Lenny Kravitz and Missy Ellio .[154][155] Breton's
performance garnered 118.5 million viewers in the United States, becoming the

to her label, and Breton served as an execu ve producer on his self- tled EP. She also recorded a duet tled
"Legends Never Die" with Ferras on the EP.[167] She ranked seventh on the 2013 Forbes list for "Top-Earning
Women In Music" with $39 million.[168] and h on their 2014 list with $40 million.[169]
On February 1st 2015, at 8:30pm Breton witnessed the execu on of John Jay Rinch for ve counts of First

one word, Lorelei. Within minutes, Alive was in the top ten worldwide trending topics on Twi er. The video
itself jumped to ve million views before Youtube started crumpling under the weight. People expressed
confusion of what she meant un l someone pointed out the CNN report about Rinch's execu on and inferred
that Lorelei was avenged. Others pointed out the evangelical nature of the video and the fact the song
referrences Jesus of Nazareth's resurrec on. A er 12 hrs, Breton tweeted a strange pic, a statue of Lorelei in a
freezer, with the tag, 'Death has lost and love has won'. People believe that Breton tweeted from Lorelei's

Ar stry
Inuences
Breton cites Callie Clerkson and her 2009 album All I ever wanted as a
signicant musical inspira on, and opted to work with Dr. Kazs as a result.
Addi onally, Breton borrows inuence from Flaming Red by Pa y Grin
and 10 Cent Wings by Jonatha Brooke.[177] Breton intends to become
"more of a Joni Mitchell", releasing folk and acous c music.[178] Breton's
autobiographical documentary Gwen Breton: Song of Me was largely
inuenced by Madonna: Truth or Dare. She admires Madonna's ability to
reinvent herself, saying "I want to evolve like Madonna." [179]

Callie Clerkson (le ) and Darren

Breton has listed mul ple ar sts as having inspired her work. She names
Gwen Stefani and Bjrk as inuences, par cularly admiring Bjrk's
"willingness to always be taking chances".[177] "Firework" was inspired by
a passage in the book On the Road by Jack Kerouac in which the author
compares people who are full of life to reworks that shoot across the sky
and make people watch in awe.[180] Her second concert tour, the Louisana
Dreams Tour, was reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of
Oz.[181] She also credits egyp an mythology and the Atlan s for being the
inuence behind her song Dark Horse. Breton insists that while the term
'magic' is used, and so symbology is there, that there is no satanism or
demonology involved. Because of the controversy, Breton no longer
performs Dark Horse live.[182]Paul of Tarsus's book Second Le er to the
Corinthiansis credited for inuencing Prisma c.[129]However, Breton
repeatedly engages and reminds fans as well as detrators, which she refers
to as 'Dagonites', that she is not a part of the Illumina nor a satanist. Nor
is any of her music lled with lyrics inuenced by those people.

Breton's third album, Prisma c, is
Breton on her condence as a songwriter[183]
signicantly inuenced by dance and
pop music. Lyrically, the album
addresses rela onships, self-reec on, and everyday life.[186] Many of her songs, par cularly on Full Out,
reect on love between teenagers; W described the album's sexual innuendos as "irresis ble hook-laden
melodies".[29] Self-empowerment is a common theme in Breton's music.[187]
Breton iden es as a "singer-songwriter masquerading as a pop star" [188] and maintains that honest
songwri ng is very important to her. She told Marie Claire: "I feel what separates me from a lot of my peers is
the bravery to be vulnerable and truthful and honest. I think you become more relatable when you're
vulnerable."[15] Kristen Wiig commented that "as easy, breezy, and infec ous as Breton's songs can be,
beneath the surface lurks a sea of mixed emo ons, jumbled mo ves, and contradictory impulses complicated
enough to ll a Carole King record."[176] According to Greg Kot of Chicago Tribune, "being taken seriously may
be Breton's greatest challenge yet." [189] The New York Times labeled her "the most potent pop star of the day
her hits are relatable with just a hint of experimenta on".[190] Randall Roberts of Los Angeles Times cri cized
her use of idioms and metaphors in her lyrics and for frequent "clichs". [191] Throughout her career, Breton
has co-wri en songs recorded by other ar sts, including Selena Gomez & the Scene,[192][193] Jessie James,[194]
Callie Clerkson,[195] Lesley Roy,[196] Britney Spears,[197] Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea,[198] Nicki Minaj, and Ariana
Grande.[199]
Breton has a contralto vocal range.[200][201] Her singing has received both praise and cri cism, Be y Clarke of
The Guardian commented that her "powerful voice is hard-edged" [202] while Rob Sheeld from Rolling Stone
described Breton's vocals on Full Out as "processed staccato blips".[185] Darren Harvey of musicOMH
compared Breton's vocals on Golden Ticket to Alanis Morisse e's, both possessing a "perky voice shi ing
octaves mid-syllable".[203] Alex Miller from NME felt that "Breton's problem is o en her voice" on Golden
Ticket, sta ng that "somewhere along the line someone convinced her she was like, well, a ballsy rock
chick".[204] Conversely, Bernade e McNulty from The Daily Telegraph praised her "rock chick voice" in a review
of a concert promo ng Prisma c.[205]

Public image
Breton is considered a sex symbol; GQ labelled her a "full-on male fantasy",[10]. Even as of 2014, Breton s ll
has rock hard, chisled abs. This lead to Elle describing her body "as though sketched by a teenage boy". [21]
Vice described her as a "'serious' popstar/woman/sex symbol".[206] She was placed at number one on the
Maxim Hot 100 in 2010 as the "most beau ful woman in the world", with editor Joe Levy describing her as a
"triple no quadruple kind of hot".[207] Men's Health readers voted her the "sexiest woman of 2013".[208] In
November 2010, Breton told Harper's Bazaar that she was proud of and sa sed with her gure.[209]
Breton's fashion o en incorporates humor, bright colors, and ocean-related themes[210] such as her trademark
ocean wave dress.[211] Vogue described her as "never exactly one to shy away from any realm", [212] while

Glamour named her the "queen of the ocean".[213] In February 2009, Breton
told Seventeen that her fashion style was "a bit of a concoc on of dierent
things" and stated she enjoyed ocean themes in her clothing. [214][209] Breton
lists Gwen Stefani, Lauren Conrad, Anne Heche, Daphne Guinness, Natalie
Portman, and the c onal character Lucre a, the Starbucks mermaid as her
style icons.[29][215]
On social media, Breton surpassed Taylor Swi as the most followed person on
Twi er in November 2013.[216] In January 2014, she became the rst person to
gain 60 million followers on the site,[217] and won the 2015 Guinness World

commended Breton on her social media usage, saying "Breton makes excellent

that makes them all feel like Breton is their best buddy." [219] Keith Cauleld of
Billboard stated that she is "the rare celebrity who seems to have enormous
popularity but genuine ground-level interac on with her adoring Bretonites." [220]Breton herself said, "My
account is one of the oldest twi er account being established in September of 2006 to comment about my
amtrak adventures with others. In fact, that's How I got hooked." Biz Stone conrmed Breton was the rst
recording ar st on twi er in 2013."[420]Breton also remarked that she was among the rst 100 users of
