BARACK OBAMA
& THE IRAQ CRISIS
President Barack Obama insists United States will not get drawn into ground war in Iraq. The
American forces that have been deployed to Iraq do not and will not have a combat mission, he
spoke recently at United States Central Command1. He stated that this will be the best solution in
the long term2. United States want to fight for their own country indirectly by fighting alongside
Iraq and against terrorism. They will support Iraqi forces on the ground, but not fight on the ground
themselves. This will help Iraq to secure a better future, according to Obama. This does raise a lot
of scepticism in the american society. In a recent poll the majority of americans does not approve of
how Barack Obama is handling the Iraq crisis3. Bottom line, president Obama says no to combat
mission, but to rather help Iraqi forces on the ground. This act results to a lot of scepticism.
The United States does have a lot of allies, though not so many American citizens approve. Not
only did the president vow that the United States are not doing this alone, he also stated that more
than 40 countries have offered to help4. All in all, United States has a lot of support, even though the
president did not reveal the countries. It is now discussable wether or not this is necessary. While
reading through comments about the case5, I understood that a lot of Americans are tired of Obamas
handling of the case. A lot of soldiers are sent away and this is costing United States a lot of money,
not to mention the fact that their legendary debt is increasing6. In conclusion, we know that the
United States have support from other countries, but their citizens are rather annoyed by Obamas

handling. This war is costing a lot and the US debt is still increasing. Maybe Obamas so called
solution is not that much of a solution?
