Assignment:
For this assignment, you will select a group of people to photograph. You can decide what kind of group
it is- a family? sisters? a sports team? a musical group? friends? a class?
Once you decide on the group, decide the location: indoors or outside? will you have a clean backdrop
to emphasize the people, or instead find an interesting setting to frame the scene? What time of day,
location or lights will create the best results for light and shadow to reveal something about the character
of the group? Will you pose the group, or let them position themselves naturally? Will the subjects be doing
something or standing still? Will your point of view be straight on, from below or from the side for profiles?
Consider taking shots both horizontal and vertical.
You may consider using the Continuous Shooting Mode to take a series of photos and select the best
image. If your camera has face detection, you might select it as well - the camera will then take the photos
with the subjects eyes open!
If you are shooting indoors, use both existing light, as well as your flash.
Artists to Consider:
TIna Barney, Gered Mankowitz, Annie Leibovitz
